I was wondering what the visual differences were between the 250 Non-integrated head, the 250 with integrated head, and the 292 were? I would like some cues to help identify them when I am looking for parts.

The integral head is easy - the intake manifold isn't bolted to the block, it''s all cast as one piece.

The easiest way I know of to tell 250s from 292s is the fuel pump location.

Fuel pump in front of motor mount = 250

Fuel pump in back of motor mount = 292

Also - the lifter covers for a 292 are bigger than the 250.

Just be careful when you are looking at what you think is a 250, the 230 was visually very similar. Just to throw a wrench in the works.

But there were lot's of 292's and 250's put in trucks, vans, combines, buses, lots of stuff up to late 80's. There is a guy up here just pulled a 292 from a combine to run in a '78 Chevy.

Looks like this is the 250 non-integrated head:

Based on this information, and going back and looking at the truck I got my setup off (1978 Big 10) I think that my setup is from a non-integrated head model. See pictures and see if this is a non-integrated head.

The intake in those pictures bolts to the head - so it's not an integral head. I prefer those...
