327 V8 small block flywheel.

Hi All,

Now that I know the bell housing will work. Does anyone have a link to a site selling flywheels for a 327 small block? I'm pulling the 230 L6 out and dropping a 327 in its place. Attaching it to the original 3 on the tree tranny. I'm a rookie and not sure what flywheel I need. I'm sure the one on the 6 will not fit on the 327. Also can anyone tell me if they upgraded their radiator to a larger size upon upgrading the motor and what they used? Thanks!

Not sure on the flywheel, someone else can answer but you will need a minimum of a three row radiator with the upper hose on the left and lower hose on the right. The pic is from summit, good prices as any if your looking new...

Depending on which radiator you currently have you may be able to have it re-cored using the 3 row core mentioned by Rich in this thread.

I did this to my factory V-8 radiator and it made a considerable difference.

Your 230 flywheel will bolt up to the 327 crank and look like it grew there. I have kept the 6 cyl radiator on V-8 swaps with no problems, but YMMV.

I will get some help as soon as I can and pull the 6 and take it apart and check the flywheel.. that would be great if it fits!! I had heard there was a diff between 6 and 8 wheels. As for the radiator. It is possibly a 3 core but it is only 1" thick where I hear most people run a 2" wide core for the v8's. I suppose I'll hook it up and flush it and run the truck and watch temps for now to see if it heats to much. I just want to be careful because it's a fresh rebuild on the 327.. I don't want to over heat it. Thanks for the info.. much appreciated :-)

I ran my 230 ci flywheel for years on the 283 I put in my '63 without any issues.

As for the rad, the bigger the better. But as an FYI, I just put an Edelbrock water pump on my 327 and it made a noticeable difference in the operating temperature. As much as cooling is about capacity, it is just as much about flow (as I just found out).

I think you`ll find that the 6-rad will work for fire up,, but won`t do the job at highway speeds as I`m assumming you`ll have 373 gears or 411 gears, winding that motor that tight at highway speeds it won`t cool it down.
