Fuel Cell Question

Hey guys, what started out as a few hrs of work removing my rear bumper and welding on my roll pan quickly took a sharp left when I smelt gas. After removing the plastic shield from the tank, sure enough the tank was rusted out and leaking. So after a few thread searches the majority of you guys said the easiest way to get that tank out was to remove the bed. So off came the bed.....so much fun...."Future" plans for the truck was a fuel cell mounted in the rear between the frame rails, but it looks like this will be sooner than later.

Now my question... Ive searched for a few threads to see if anyone had any info or pics of fuel cells mounted under the bed between the frame rails and I didnt have any luck. Does anyone have a link to a thread or have any pics of this? Any info would be a big help.

Pat, have you given any thought to movig your full cell up to be flush with the top of your frame rails? It will help hide the cell more when viewed from behind the truck, and push the fuel filler closer to the bed floor, making it easier to access.

bigblock73, your fuel door design looks awesome. I dont know anyone with a fab shop and the fuel door on a ribbed bed floor has me a bit worried. As like you, I dont want mine to look like a hack job either. Would your friend with the fab shop be interested in making a duplicate for me? Strange request I know, I just cant get over how well it turned out.

Unfortunately, the friends shop closed down...too bad, because there was more stuff I wanted to make, and he was willing to work with me on the R&D on this kind of stuff.

Any machine shop should be able to build this for you, you just need to get the fuel door of choice first...they can do the rest.

Thats too bad about your friends fab shop. Im sure there are a lot of guys that would have liked to have a few of your ideas make it to production for our trucks.
