ampmeter

I have an '89 2wd 1500 with a 305 and the ampmeter bugs the hell out of me. Whenever I turn on something electrical including the turn signals the needle drops and then recovers, it even pulsates in synch with the turn signals. I have never had a Chevy before and am wondering if this is normal. The truck charges and runs just fine.
