Converting to round headlights, anyone ???

Hi , i'm currently rebuilding my C10 Stepside (1982), and i am thinking of putting in round headlights instead of the 4 square ones that used to be in the front.
Has anyone ever done this and if so can you post pics or Photoshop maybe.
Will be making a build thread when i have the time.
And don't worry , i goes down and will be shaved, back fenders lenghtened or shortening the bed, still working that out.
Thanks !

Truck looks awesome already! Do a search for front clip swap at the top of the forum. Lots of info.

73/74 are the most beautiful front ends, in my opinion. Absolutely love them. I'd consider doing it on my 87 but really hate the idea of mod'ing the cab for the hood hinges. I'll bide my time and find a 73/74 some day.

Re: Converting to round headlights, anyone ???

I am sorry that I don't have information about this, but I wanted to say AWESOME!

I am so tired of seeing people take 73-78 chevy's and replacing that beautiful L body-line and those round headlights with the 80's model straight body-line and square lights.

I hope you figure this out!

No mods to the cab required. The hinges bolt to the fenders.
So, no more excuses get in the garage

To each his own, the truck looks awesome as it is! Will look pretty darn sweet with round lights though. I actually prefer how the round lights look from the front, compared to the 81+...... but, I think from the side, the body line is cooler on the 81+.

Re: Converting to round headlights, anyone ???

Gotta weld up the extra holes in the cab. I guess you could just do it without fixing the cab, but would look rather ghetto. If you are not going to do it right, why bother.

My 2 cents >the 81-87's were made for the rectangular headlights etc.

your truck looks great as it shold with what you have > GM desighners were not dummies back then . If you want round headlights get a truck that was made for them .

The same should hold true then for those who "upgrade" their 73-87 to a 88-91 front end. If you want a 88+ looking pickup front end, get a 88+ pickup...LoL

Thanks for all the input but i am really thinking outside the box this time.
I have been playing around with PS and i need comments about it.
I am thinking about a paintjob like the maxwell fleetside pickup (70-72 i think), black on top and apple red for bottom part, interior will be black console (custom) and the rest all lipstick red leather.
Tires will be smaller in front so they don'"t stick out .
The inside rails of the grill should be wider (2 instead of 4) , to get a fat look, more like the old grill inserts.
Tell me what you think about this.

I know it looks great the old way , but as i am rebuilding everything, i want better front lights , the saeled beams are crap, and i like the round look, so im considering this.
I can"t find the rectangular ones in the same size that gives me the lightening i want> At least H4 bulbs
Rectangulars over here are all bigger in size.

With your theory then, these trucks should not be lowered or lifted, should all be running a I6 or 305 V8 with single exhaust and have AM/FM radio only. Tis the beauty of making a vehicle your own, do what you want and make yourself happy.

Or you could use the jeep lights. A little more expensive, but I think they look better than the LMC ones....

Re: Converting to round headlights, anyone ???

Your photochop kind of looks like a 67-68 grill and headlights? Sorta.

I kind of like the idea. And the truck looks sweet as-is too! I had an 81 many many years ago, and I'm kicking around the idea of ditching the 91 grill on Fred and putting the original rad support back in with an 81-82 grill and bumper.

but the thing about the 88-91 front end is, that is the best front end the chev never put on they're regular production 81-87 trucks! myself if my 83 didnt have the 90 suburban front end, i would have put on the 73 front end, i have one here and that is my favorite next to the 88-91 front end

Re: Converting to round headlights, anyone ???

I may be in the dark here...but is there a reason, other than the grille, that people like the 73-74 front clip better? To my knowledge the only thing that changed on the front clips from 73-78 was the grilles...

It is mainly for the grills...as the 73/74 is recessed and gives it more of a classic look. The front markers were also amber vs clear for 75-80. The headlight buckets were a darker grey vs lighter grey/silver. Other than those three things, they are indeed a lot alike.
