ANYONE TRY THESE YET? ARE THE BETTER THAN THE POLY ONES?
ANY ONE HAVE ANY PICS OF THE STEEL INSTALLED? RESON FOR QUESTIONS IS I HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY THE STEEL TANK,BUT DONT KNOW IF I SHOULD HOLD OUT FOR A NO LIMIT OR CCP ALUMINUM TANK. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK? HOLD OUT OR GO FOR IT.

i went for poly. what a mistake! it doesnt hold its shape and was expensive

Did you vent the tank? If not that is the problem of the tank not holding the shape. Whenever you remove something out of a gas tank it has to be replaced with something, in the case of the gas tank that means air has to replace the gas being used by your truck. If not it will collapse because a vacuum is created inside the tank. The same thing happens with the steel tanks, I know this because every time I fill my Blazer up with gas, when I remove my gas cap there is a big suction noise at the filler followed by a popping noise from the tank as it returns to it's normal shape. The poly tank should return to it's normal shape also, because of the memory charictoristics of Polyetholene. If you want to eliminate the problem use one of the 3 venting places and run a vent hose with a brass filter on the end of it up into one of the frame rails or somewhere it will stay reasonably free of water and dirt. Installed properly, in my opinion, the poly tanks are better than the steel tanks. This is because if something flys up and hits the bottom of your tank it won't dent. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

yea that could be part of it. but you cant tighten it down without it bending,seems a little narrower than original. the dent factor is why i went that way too.

Here is what I suggest... Go to the nearest truckstop and buy a rubber mud flap. Bring it home and cut a couple of narrow strips to place between the tank ears and your frame rails. Lower your tank and place 1 strip between each tank ear and the frame and remount the tank. If possible prebend the straps befor you mount them back under the truck with the tank in place, then tighten the bolts. If the tank is buckling under the pressure then you are tightening it too much and just back the bolts off a little. The rubber will absorb the vibrations of daily driving and also act as a brake so that the tank won't slip forward or back under your truck. Remember you are only holding the tank in place and there is no need to over torque the bolts. The tank itself has grooves in it that the straps lay in. These will keep the tank from slipping under the straps also. Good Luck!! WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

yea thanks, i'm thinkin maybe there should be something more between the frame and tank. the rubber sounds good. picked up a parts blazer, it has an extra piece in there
