flip kit question

I want to drop the rear of my truck down some more. It is dropped 3" now with a drop shakle and my question is, do I need to use a c channel to use a flip kit? If yes then what one would you guys recommend?

Anymore then a 4 inch drop you will need to C notch the frame.I just did this to my frame and bought the kit from summit racing.Its a belle tech kit and comes complete w/ everything, shipped to my door for 280.00.Only thing i replaced were the rubber bump stop snubbers.They come w/ tan beehive style bump stops. I went online to fleabay n bought a pair of red ones, same height but better design for 15.00..

p.s. My leaf spring hangars and shackles also came from belle tech.I dropped the rear 6 inches and the front end of my truck is lowered 4 1/2 inches..

Not exactly true.

It all depends on the rear suspension setup. Both my 73 and 77 got flip kits, but because I have the HD leafs, it was more like a SIX inch drop. Neither needed a notch, there was still enough room. I drive my 77 almost daily with that setup, and haul stuff too...have yet to bottom out. I did have to remove the factory bump stops and put in lower profile ones to be safe.

I think it is just simply safe to say, anything more than a flip kit in back and you'll need to notch the frame.

I recently flipped the rear of my truck along with the shackles set to the 1'' mark. Still had plenty of room between the axle and the frame. If the kit did not come with c-notches, I would not have installed them.

This is a 5 leaf setup.

Hey guys! New to the board, and I also have a question regarding the flip kit brackets. This is how my truck looks after doing the rear flip kit and removing the bottom thick leaf.


I did not remove the factory bump stops and the rear end is actually touching the bump stops. So, should I remove the bumb stops and hope that it will not end up with the frame on top of the rearend? Also, I want to cut the coils up front, but how much and do I cut the top side or the bottom of the coil?

bottom of the coil ,cut a full coil out that will give you 2 inchs of drop

as for the rear with 5leaf springs in the back and the bumb stop out of the way it left me with a good 4-5 inchs of room as you can see in the pic above

I have about the same amount of room on my crew cab/swb project but I do not have the bed installed yet. I am using the rear half of a 1/2-ton frame with the 1/2 ton springs, don't remember the spring count of the top of my head.
If I stand on the frame and bounce up and down I can get the frame to hit the axle.
I am going to do the notch because now is the time to do it...
