Electronic spark controller Eradication.

I turned my distributor counter clocking wise wich is advance right? Ok so when i have it turned almost to the point the vaccume advance is hitting the manifold the truck runs smooth and idle's perfect. The only noticeable problem is while cruising and flooring it there is a split second of hesitation.

I found the wire going to my knock sensor melted onto the exhaust manifold. A member here told me yesterday it retards the timing, is that the electronic spark controller that retards timing? I cant remember wich wires to splice to bypass the controller, I dont have a test light either so im just doing this by seat of pants feel. If

So if the wire melted onto the exhaust manifold would that tell the ESC the truck is pinging? Also i really want to start cutting some of these crappy wires off, i went to after market gauges so have some loose wires, can you buy a new wiring harness that plugs directly in place of the one i have in my engine bay?

You can unplug the entire harness. I removed mine with my current engine. Pull the ECS module. Next pull all the wires in the engine bay. I ended up selling my ECS to someone here in AZ.

So according to this i just connect the green and black wire on the distributor plug side and i do not even have to plug it back in? What part of Az are you in?

Re: Electronic spark controller Eradication.

Without ESC the distributor will have no advance capabilities and your power & gas mileage will go into the toilet.

You need to put in an older HEI with vacuum advance to replace the one in your truck now.

not true you can just unplug the esc, splice the green and black wires together and you can throw away all the esc crap. this converts it to a regular hei unit.

Re: Electronic spark controller Eradication.

The esc distributors still have mechanical and vacuum advance. That pos esc box just causes problems. They didnt work worth a damn in the 80's but were a feeble attempt at making an effort to reduce emissions. The distributor is perfectly capable of functioning without it.

Re: Electronic spark controller Eradication.

I spliced the green and black wire leaving the plug together still. Seems to run great, good power up hills. Im still needing to put a timing light on it and trying to remember to write down my mileage so i can calculate gas mileage.

Re: Electronic spark controller Eradication.

Unplug the plug. You just bypassed the box by splicing the wires. Unhook it so nothing shorts out.
