CUCVs Off to Auction...

Snapped a pic of some surplus CUCVs being delivered to the DRMO for disposal. The truck in front had a couple Blazers but I wasn't fast enough. I remember being issued CUCVs and turning in our Dodge M880s. Hope they find a good home.

That's cool. Sometimes these surplus trucks are still in really good shape, and have next to no miles on them too.

Re: CUCVs Off to Auction...

Sadly these trucks will be cut up for drivetrain, then junked. Problem with these trucks is there are no options.

Not always. There are a few of us driving them around in stock condition with no problems. The ones that sell for $2500 and up on govliquidators.com are for driving not scrap. The GSA ones are more likely to be used and abused.
I had about 15 of these so far, 5 for parts, 10 for resale, one I use. Again, strong, stock trucks if you take care of them.

I dont know about you but i dont see a problem with pulling $2000 dollars worth of drivetrain out of a $1500 dollar truck....

I get what your saying, but i was just saying that happens because the trucks have no options. At least in my hood thats what happens

yeah or because the body just aint worth anything (one reason being no options, the other being beat up). Around here we like dana 60's and th400/np205's as much as we like 2.5 and 5 ton rockwells...

Re: CUCVs Off to Auction...

Sadly the people who get them think they got a gold mine and want an unrealistic amount of money for them. Just because they are ex military, does not really make them very special. I'd much more prefer an ex rural fire department 4x4.
They might all be low miles, and heavy duty, but they have no options and would be hard to do anything with other than make crawlers out of. Usually age is more of a killer than miles anyways, so I'd prefer some modern day things, like air conditioning.

Re: CUCVs Off to Auction...

Here for example is one in the federal surplus program that is NOT available to the public but IS to a municipality or fire dept. in the state of Pa. for $1750.
I would buy this in a heartbeat, take off the cap and use it as is.
These are great plow/work trucks as is.

That last one is clean. I set of those axles would make my dually to single wheel swap a lot easier!

Or you could just run the stock HMMWV wheels...

You have to register first
Most CUCVs require a EUC before you can pick up
Go to
http://www.steelsoldiers.com
You'll see how much fun we all have with GL and EUCs

I now wish I had NEVER seen that website.

I just spent an hour wondering how my 70 k1500 would do if I tried to tow one of those 1008s from Maine to VA.

Re: CUCVs Off to Auction...

Reviving an old thread... I was going to wait until I actually took possession of the truck, but I am still waiting on the EUC to clear (61 days now).

I couldn't help myself. After seeing the trucks go into the disposal yard, I got to go in and check them out. I wanted one of the Blazers, but after looking at them, they were pretty much junk. I did fall for one of the pick-ups though, and won it when it came up for auction a few weeks later. It is in great condition and fired right up. All of the accessories work and it shifts into F&R with no issues. 38k miles on the 6 digit odometer. Only bad part is two small rust holes (both dime size) in each cab corner. No other rust issues at all and after dealing with the cancer on my 76, believe me, I looked. original price (in 1984) was $31k. I got it for 2k.

Nice looking truck! I bought one from an auction in Louisiana about a year ago. Yours looks alot cleaner than the one I bought. You are better off with a truck than a Blazer in my opinion. The Blazers seem to sell for just as much, if not more, money and you don't get the 1 ton axles.

Congrats on the purchase. I got lucky with my EUC, I got it in 14 calendar days. Now I'm waiting on my SF97 but that hasn't kept me from driving it daily, I just carry around a copy of the invoice. I'm loving mine, hope you get yours soon. Post up pics when you get it.

Congrats on your CUCV. I bought one back in April, and I went today and picked a M101A2 trailer for it.
