Weight of a 1947-53 truck?

Does anyone know about how much a stock or V-8 modified 47-53 chevy truck weighs? I'm scheming a new build and have to stay under 4499. Thanks Ryan.

3/4 ton with a 9 ft bed and a 6 cylinder is about 3690, depending on the V8 you shouuld be ok.

just got my 53 1/2 ton short bed weighed with the 235 in it and it was a little over 3200#

I have built and weighed many. We use foour corner scales in house. SB with small block + 3200-3300lbs. Add 100lbs for BBC. Add 150lbs for LB. Add 60 lbs for A/C.

Looks like I could be close to 4000 with a cummins then. How much torqe/flexing will these frames take? Thanks.

You absolutely positively need to box the frame. For diesel torque--I think I would use 3/16 plate--might be overkill but, I still think I would use it.

If I get this truck and put a 5.9 in it, it will be temporary. My brother and I made the finals with my car but we can't drive the same car at the finals. So I'm contemplating throwing this 53 chevy together I found locally. Then after the race build it for a sweet DD. Right now the truck already has a nova stub in the front and a nova rear axle in the rear. We'll see what happens, I think I'll have to recess the firewall to get the engine in there and I'm planning on using a 4x4 trans with no tcase to keep a decent length driveshaft. I'm also thinking about a set of tow twins with a mild 12v. It is all speculation right now though. It has to be under 4499 to be in this class. I don't think that'll be a problem.

You will need a lot more than that Nova rear axle to handle the Cummins. I'd be hunting a stout 9 inch Ford at the minimum. If you are pulling the engine and trans out of the other car I'd run the rear end that was part of the setup too.

I'm not removing anything from my car. This will be a second ride. I'm planning a 9" but for now the 10 bolt will have to work until I find a 9". I will be on a tight schedule if I have to build this for this race. IDK if I'll have to have it there yet or not. The race is September 25th so that doesn't leave much time. I'd just have to come easy out of the hole, if that is even possible.

I don't think that the ten bolt will handle that much torque and survive.
Also does your sanctioning body allow C clip rearends in a class like that?

You have to meet NHRA rules for time and et. I'm guessing it won't be really fast because you won't be able to put the power to the ground, which I don't want to at this time. This winter, that will change. The 10 bolt will only be in ther to get it there and make a few passes to get the points and maybe a pay out. A lot of the guys in our class usually brake in the last few rounds because they are pushing their rigs so hard. I already know I can't go faster than 11.50 because of no cage.

im at 3760 the way it sits with me in it. elky front clip has alot to do with that. iron headded sbc. 2150 front weight 1610 rear.

Thanks guys. I already found a 9" or 2 so now I just have to wait to get the truck. I'm thinking of a "Plastic" bed floor and maybe some fiberglass fenders in due time to get this truck down where it needs to be. I think this will be my next street/strip project. But I want this one to be more streetable than the corvette. The corvette just isn't comfortable for me to cruise in. This should be a fun one.
