Making a c30 long bed fleetside

Hey guys. I need some help? Heres my goal. I want to make a 72 long bed dually hauler. I dont want to use the later year rear ends because I dont want to use the side tubs. I have access to a 67 C30 and a 72 long bed fleetside C10. What will be the easiest way to do this using these two trucks? From what Ive read I can use a long horn bed and that would bolt right up to the C30 chassis but I want to use a regular long bed. Please help point me in the right direction. Thanks

I also might be able to get a hold of a 71 long bed C20. Dont know if that would help any.

In addition to what I PM'd you you can look for a leaf spring 72 long bed truck and then just put a narrow dually rear up under it. You will still need to tub the wheel wells and a some additional springs or air bags would help too.

Does any one know what trucks came with the shorter width rear ends?

Cab and chassis. Or you can find a 14 bolt FF single from a 3/4 ton and swap dually hubs onto it. I believe you'd have to move the flange as well for the drum brakes or swap to rear disc and rims larger than 16"

Thanks stingray. what about the cab and chassis? also if i use the single rear end and add the dually hubs wont that push the wheels out beyond the bed? thats what Im trying to avoid.

Re: Making a c30 long bed fleetside

to run an 8 foot bed, you'll have to cut 6 inches out of the frame.

Re: Making a c30 long bed fleetside

so does that mean I will have to cut the drive shaft? Also what do you guys think about taking a dually rear and making it fit into a c20. Would that be an easier route?

Re: Making a c30 long bed fleetside

So the c20 I was looking at just sold today. Should I keep looking for a c20 or can I just get a long bed c10 and swap the rear to a dually? And does any 67-72 c30 that has a regular truck cab have the narrow rear duals?

something like this would be a better start http://portland.craigslist.org/nco/cto/1869024672.html

ofcourse not that one up here in oregon, but a similiar one near you. cab and chassis model dually. extra length chassis for flat beds or longer fleetside beds, narrowed rear end.

Re: Making a c30 long bed fleetside

all 67 - 72 trucks with DRW (original pieces, not an owner modified truck) will have the narrow unit. You could ONLY get DRW in a cab/chassis truck (or cowl/chassis in earlier years) the wide rear 'big dooly' trucks weren't made till the 73 - 87 model.

Re: Making a c30 long bed fleetside

not a problem. Also be warned they will all have 5.13 rear gear ratio (as original), and a 4.10 is as good as you'll get for these HO series corperate rears.
