700R4 Rebuild Options
I have basically a stock TBI 350 in my 1990 Suburban along with the stock rear end. I would like to build up the new 700R4 somewhat... I plan on adding the Super Servos at a later point. I'm having a local shop rebuild it for me. What torque converter, shift kit or anything else would I go for? I plan on building things up as I have the money and would like a transmission that can more than handle the stock and soon to be upgraded engine. Tips or ideas?

Re: 700R4 Rebuild Options
Hardened seperator plates on the valve body, the corvette governor, 9 clutch pack kits, heavy dut planetarty and sun gear. I also installed a TRANSGO shift improver kit---worth the money.

Re: 700R4 Rebuild Options
What exact shift kit should I get? B&M or another option? Is there any other parts I should buy before the rebuild that I wouldn't be able to put on later?

Re: 700R4 Rebuild Options
Just checkout this place, maybe call them ask for advice, as far as I can tell from the transmission I bought from them a couple years ago, they are transmission gods.
http://www.finishlinetrans.com/ I got a FLT Level 3 4L60E from them a couple years ago for my wifes truck and so far it is a BEAST. Everyone recommended them to me, the only people who didn't were the competition of course. I think in some circles they may be recognized, as I said, as transmission GODS. They are very nice folks too. Though they are busy, so they may not always answer the phone. They sell parts too, so if you are doing your rebuild yourself, check them out for really good custom made parts, etc especially for a 700R4/4L60.

Re: 700R4 Rebuild Options
I just ordered a HD towing 700R4 from Hughes Performance yesterday.
Nice people who always took the time to answer my million questions. Haven't gotten it yet, but they are worth the look. I got the kit complete with a special torque converter, deep oil pan, 24k trans cooler, and of course the trans. Guy said it will handle 550HP, and has all of the above mentioned mods plus cryo-treated hard parts. You may not want the same kit that I got, costs a little more, but they do have a very similar street/strip version that you may be looking for. I just went with this because I use my Suburban as a tow vehicle and it is constantly working hard (I do plan on putting a 383 or a 454 in there in the next year or so and this trans will hold that just fine with no further mods needed). |

Re: 700R4 Rebuild Options
I've got the shop that it's going to be rebuilt at, but I wanted the parts before I brought it.

Re: 700R4 Rebuild Options
Now would a high stall torque converter be a bad choice for a stock engine?

Re: 700R4 Rebuild Options
You have to run a lockup with a 700r4. Its not optional if you want the transmission to last.Converter always gets matched to the cam. A stock-ish cam I wouldnt go more than 1800 stall. Theres really no need.

Re: 700R4 Rebuild Options
So then I'd run this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRG-700-LU with a stock converter?
