Factory Disk brake Caliper Weight??
Does anyone have a caliper from a 67-82 off their truck that would be willing to weigh it. I'm planing on doing some changes for weight purposes and curious to know what I'll be shaving in the caliper. Thanks in advance.

Re: Factory Disk brake Caliper Weight??
regular shipping weight for a front brake caliper is 10.23 lbs
This is a bare caliper, meaning no brake pads, not painted. Hopefully this helps.

Re: Factory Disk brake Caliper Weight??
If you are planning upon using stock cast iron parts, I would doubt that there is any weight savings at all.

Re: Factory Disk brake Caliper Weight??
No sir.. 4th gen rear brakes use the same size rotor yet use alum caliper with steel bracket. The caliper and bracket weighs in at 7.8lbs vs 10.23 which is almost 5lbs for both sides. If I can find a light weight rotor that is 5x5 and bearings that will work with it, might be worth the work. On the other hand I want to put a new frame and mustang 2 front on it, but that is a ways out. If I can shave 30lbs for a couple hundred right now, it is worth it to me.
BTW, this is a race only set up. So please don't freak out...

Re: Factory Disk brake Caliper Weight??
so are you converting your front end to something totally different or retrofitting something to the stock spindle?

Re: Factory Disk brake Caliper Weight??
I'm in the air on that right now. I have a 67 Camaro spindle I think I can make work by reaming the ball joint holes out slightly and running the parts needed at that point..
Or Using the truck spindle and finding a bearing that will work with an aftermarket rotor and making mounting plate for the 4th gen caliper.. Or Holding off completely and building a new frame with a Mustang 2 front and light race brakes to go with it... It all comes down to money. If I can shave 30lbs for $250, I'll go that route for now. But if not, then I will wait and put that $250 towards the $2000-2500 mustang 2 front set up and shave 150-300lbs with the frame and m2 stuff. The frame is cheap, I have 2x3 ans 2x4 .120 wall sqaure tube.

Re: Factory Disk brake Caliper Weight??
Not freaking out....It just seemed from your original post that you were converting from drum to disk and thinking that there was a big weight savings.
Bad assumption on my part....

Re: Factory Disk brake Caliper Weight??
No problem.. The freaking out comment wasn't actually direct towards you It was a general statement as I have seen people get a little worrysome assuming the truck get's used as a daily driver.
