Serpentine Swap Questions

Hey guys, I was able to answer almost all of my questions reading old posts, but I'm left with 3 unanswered.

My truck is a 71 with the original 350. The serpentine setup I have is off of a 4.3 & is the aluminum bracket version.

Question 1) What upper & lower radiator hoses do I need?

Question 2) Will I need to swap thermostat housings?

Question 3) Do I need to run a later model harmonic balancer with this setup?

Thanks for any help, so far this board has been a great resource for me!

Re: Serpentine Swap Questions

1) I took the easy way out and used something like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MRG-11010C/ . I thought it would look cheap but I kind of like it.

2) Not necessarily. See if you can find a rad hose that fits the existing thermostat housing.

3) No. As long as the crank pulley bolts to existing harmonic damper and lines up correctly with the other pulleys you are fine.

Re: Serpentine Swap Questions

I made up a hose for mine from the truck I got it from and the original using a step down exhaust pipe. I used the stat housing for the truck I got it off of, a 91 and I used the original balancer.

Re: Serpentine Swap Questions

Thermo housing from the doner a serp setup and the hose. If you didn't grab it you can get a 45 swivel thermo with the O ring. And a upper hose from a parts store that fits a 93 or 94 3/4 T P/U GMC will work and probally others too but I know that year n truck will work. The lower hose is more of a crap shoot depending on where your engine is mounted.

Re: Serpentine Swap Questions

Sweet! Thanks for all the info folks. I still have the donor motor in the back of the truck, so I'll grab the t-stat housing off it.

@ Sammy - the engine is in the front location, from what I can tell, if that'll help narrow it down on the lower hose.

Absolutely. The one on the donor looked like it was replaced recently, so I pirated it as well.
