headers

Have been looking around for headers for my build. It's a 60 with sbc going in. I have found headers for a 1968 and up, nothing for mine. Will the headers that are used for the 68 to 73 fit? It appears there is plenty of room, but thought i'd ask before buying.

That's kind of weird, because I would expect anything that fits a 68 would also fit back to 63. However, 60-62 frames are definitely different from 63-up, so I think you would need dedicated 60-62 headers unless you are going for that "hanging way below the frame" look.

Question Re: headers

An additional issue with these older trucks is the tortion bar suspension causes header clearance problems. I'm hoping someone out there has been there and done that and will help out.

Ordered a set of Patriot "Clipsters" from JEGS today. Price was good, about
$165.00 and they are actually supposed to fit with no mods. Well, we'll see. After I instll them, i'll let you all know.

Re: headers

They are Patriot brand, clipster model headers. Ordered from JEGS for around 150.00. They are not full length, but not shorties. they go back towards the firewall instead of straight down. I'll post a follow up when I get them installed. It may be a couple weeks before I'm there, but I will post it.

Re: headers

couldn't use the full length headers as all the manufacturers i found excluded trucks with tortion bar suspension. ALso, I am using the stock motor mounts from the 86 GMC truck which donated the 350 engine/700r4 transmission. Got to build a crossmember, but no big deal. ALso the frame is 1" taller on the 86 than the 60, so i have to put a 1" spacer on top of the frame on the 60 under the mount to bring it in where the 86 motor mounts sit in the proper place on the 60 frame.
