"D" Shackle mount for front bumber
I have the std OEM chrome bumper. I have a Ramsey 8000 lb winch bolted to the frame behind the bumper. The opening is directly behind the frt license plate (old gas fill hinges). I want to use a Snatch block for increased pulling, but I don't have anything to attach to. Is there a system out there that bolts on to the front using longer bolts?
Thanks |

Re: "D" Shackle mount for front bumber
Will some original tow hooks work? Or are those holes taken by the winch?
How bout some CUCV shackle mounts?

Re: "D" Shackle mount for front bumber
Original holes now have 1/2" bolts in them for the winch. CUCV shackle mounts??? Would they bolt onto the bumper with new longer bolts?

No, You would have to cut a square hole in your bumper, then bolt them directly to your frame. Look at the front of a M1008 army truck, you will see what i'm talking about.

Re: "D" Shackle mount for front bumber
whatever you decide to do make sure you have a pulling point on each frame side and use both of them. lots of bad things can happen pulling on one side only, usually relating to bent frames. youtube has tons of videos on how not to pull from one side, most pretty funny to us, not so for the person that owns the truck or car.

Re: "D" Shackle mount for front bumber
Here are some pics. As you can see the winch eats up a lot of room. Either I get a custom made bracket to fit on the bumper or through it ( I think it might cost more than I want) or get some big hooks bolted (or welded) on the frame. Again there isn't much room for the hooks. Any sugeestions???

Re: "D" Shackle mount for front bumber
It looks like there's room between the spring mount and the single 1/2" bolt.
I put the newer style hooks (73-87) on my Blazer in that spot.

Re: "D" Shackle mount for front bumber
any more pictures of the winch mount? that is an awesome set up! as for hooks, you could try, if you like the look anyways, a light bar mount. you know the ones that are popular on 73-87 trucks. i have one and it works great for pulling and getting pulled.

Re: "D" Shackle mount for front bumber
Perfect - Nice and clean!
Did you have a metal shop fabricate them or did they already have something in their arsenal? Is that a 1/2 or 5/8 hole for the shackle? Do you or they have a layout for the design? BTW from what I can see the K5 looks great! Thanks, Sean PS I owe you a cold one!!! Where in Texas? |

Re: "D" Shackle mount for front bumber
After my tranny died, I haven't had the funds for fun upgrades, but I did find a shop in Denver that will do the work for $110. That includes the CAD/computer time. Looking forward to getting them done in the Spring.

Sorry guys. I talked to my friend who designed and made these for me. He's not willing to share his design at this time. Respecting his wishes, I have removed the main pic of them. Posted via Mobile Device |
