Tire Size Opinions/Poll

So, I'm running 15x7 slotted aluminum mags on my 64 GMC. Right now with 275/60s all around, 2 are fresh 2 are shot. I wanted to do taller tires out back and skinnier up front even though my rims are all 15x7, cant afford a new set. However, I dont think the 15x7 wheels can handle a wider tire...

Should I do the 275/60s out back, and a smaller tire up front, say 225/60/15....

OR, should I run the 275/60s up front, and get taller 31" tires or so out back?

Gonna be a 2wd half ton at stock height. Let me know.

Re: Tire Size Opinions/Poll

Just as a reference, I just put on my slot and new tires on my '65.

Fronts 235/70-15 on 15x7, Rears 255/70-15 on 15x8.5. I was afraid that 275's would be too wide with the later rear end. I had a set of 275's on a set of 15x10 steel wheels and it was really close, even with the PO bending the lip on the fender over. Stock height you may be okay but mine is lowered. Happy with my results.

Re: Tire Size Opinions/Poll

A stock height C10 can handle 31X10.50R15's at all 4 corners (or at least mine does with 15X8" wheels).

How about put the 275's on the back and buy a pair of matching 255/60R15's for the front if you are wanting that look?

Re: Tire Size Opinions/Poll

You want taller on the rear? Try 275/70 or 275/75. If the 275/60 works on a 7" wheel, so will the others. The /75s are a little over 31".

Re: Tire Size Opinions/Poll

A 275 is a fairly wide tire, I would set it out back and get something smaller for the front. It will also be a little cheaper to buy smaller tires than larger.

Re: Tire Size Opinions/Poll

I think chevymike got it just right with 235s up front and 255s out back.
Just my taste - but I prefer 70 series tires on trucks as they are relatively taller than their corresponding 60 series of the same section width. If BFG made 75s, I'd get those, but they don't in FBG Rad TAs. Have seen many 275-60-15s on the back, but that is a shorter tire than a 255-70-15 (although they do look good). My truck is stock height (for now) so I don't want to go to a 60 series just yet - diameter matters to me, need a taller tire. On my stock rims going to run 235-75-15s and on the rallies going to run 235/255-70-15s front/rear. I currently have 255-70-15s all the way around and, while I like the fact that all four are the same size, I have to say that the 255s look a little fat in the front (for my taste on this truck). What really matters is what YOU like and also the ride height of the truck - different heights seem to make different tire/wheel combos look better or worse. Bottom line - I think chevymike's pic above has got it just right, I wouldn't change a thing from that.
My 2 cents. And that's not even worth a penny.
