Re: 66 305E upgrade HELP!
unfortunately, there really aren't many other options for getting performance out of your 305. Keep in mind these are truck motors that don't spin very high because of heavy crankshafts and a 60 degree design. The "m" heads, different carbs, exhaust and distributor are about all you can do without having custom made parts or some serious machine work. check out
www.thunderv12.com. they did some crazy things but you'll notice the price reflects that as well. My advice is enjoy it for what it is unless you want to spend big money.

Re: 66 305E upgrade HELP!
Sure they are fine to replace but why fix it if it isn't broke? It wouldn't hurt to buy them and have them around though...who knows how much longer the V-6 stuff is going to be available. There is basically no desire for them by most car enthusiasts. Just a few of us crazy guys that gotta be different.

Re: 66 305E upgrade HELP!
I'd love to be fortunate enough to be different like you guys. I think those engines are just plain neat. And I agree with Corts60, those parts would be very expensive to make from scratch, plus the design of the engine just wasn't made for the performance enthusiast. They were all about torque and lasting as long as they could. If you want more out of it you could try to locate one of the 400+ CI model V-6's. Those have loads of torque.

Re: 66 305E upgrade HELP!
That's going to be tough to find I bet, but that should open up some more power for you right there if you do find one. Its a shot in the dark but check local scrap yards. I have seen a couple of the V-6's at pick n pull before. I know what you mean, I need to get some funds together and sign up as well!

Re: 66 305E upgrade HELP!
reasons to grabbing replacement parts was to make this thing look good again and make it run like it did when it first came out the factory

Re: 66 305E upgrade HELP!
If your motor is a 66 you shouldn't need an intake manifold, just the $20 adapter. Does your intake have 3 or 4 carb studs?

Re: 66 305E upgrade HELP!
im think of stripping the paint off and go with cast iron on the block and some type of black on some of the parts.Just always like the gray and black looks on a engine

Re: 66 305E upgrade HELP!
Once you've junked that original carb and fitted the Holley, you'll be surprised how much better the motor pulls. Some advocate fitting a Pertronix ignition system, but mine still runs stock ignition and she's on the button every time.

I did some research on the HEI on ebay and the reviews were not to good.I use and most others use pretronix conversion.

Re: 66 305E upgrade HELP!
I'm not too sure where you can get it but we always use Aerovoe engine paint at the shop I used to be at and it is GREAT paint. I don't recommend Duplicolor. Try to find a set of plaid valve covers maybe, that would look cool with black and gray.
