1987 R-10 is Worth What ?
2 Months Ago i bought an '87 Silverado 1/2 ton simply to do some minor gravel and top soil hauling .
I'm not all that savy on How or What to Look For When Buying a Used Truck, however, I may have stumbled onto a real gem of truck ! It appears all this truck was used for was to haul bales of hay on a very occasional basis . The body and the bed are perfectly straight ! All the hood, door, window and bed seems fit perfectly too ! Other than the typical bad paint used on Chevy trucks back then, the body is in near mint condition . Only ONE minor door ding on the whole body & bed ! It has a 305 that runs strong and only has 106,000 miles on it . The tranny has a slow leak, but it doesn't burn or leak oil at all . Question #1) I'm just curious if $1500.00 was a fair price for a truck that looks like crap because of the bad paint, but is otherwise in near mint condition inside and out ?? Question #2) Is a 1987 Silverado R-10 with the 305 a popular truck for restoration ? Thanks for any input ! |

$1500 is a fair price if the truck is like you say, a running/driving vehicle with no real major mechanical flaws. Paint on a 23 year old vehicle is going to be in sad shape, I don't care what manufacturer made it.
1987 was the first year GM put the fuel injection on trucks, and the first year they brought back the 350 engine for a regular 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive. The fact yours has a 305 instead of a 350 hurts it just a little in my book, but that's opinion of course. The 87's are just as popular as the rest of the squares really, maybe a little more due to the TBI. But, if you're trying to make a hot rod, first thing you'll do really is remove the TBI. So it's all in what you're doing and what you want to make you happy. You is the theme in most instances.

You didn't get hurt at 1500. As far as is it worth restoring, that is totally a personal choice

Yeah I'd say $1500 was a good deal considering the description. I have to disagree with Randy though, you can make a nice streeter keeping the TBI in place.

Just seems you can do so much more, cheaper, with a carburetor. Not sure why that is, but I like my TBI.

Yeah but as long as you don't go messing around with the gas tanks, you can't beat the reliability & mileage on a TBI.
