new truck, new member a few questions.
I just recently came to receive as a gift from my wife a 1969 chevy c20 3/4 with a 4 speed manual and the 350 sbc. The first issue I have run into with it is one of the trailing arms was so rusted out before I had noticed it, the stupid thing broke on me while I was driving.
So my question is will the CPP tubular trailing arms fit on my truck? I plan on completly restoring this truck just a little at a time. I dont have alot of time or money to do it all at once. Does any one know if there are any other trucks out there that the trailing arms will fit this truck? I want the CPP but if I dont have to shell out the $600 for new ones I would rather not. sorry for the long post. Here Is a few pics of my new baby. thanks in advance. |

Re: new truck, new member a few questions.
don't they only do dropped trialing arms? I'm not looking to drop mine to the ground if at all. I'm pretty happy with the height its at now. I have looked at there site but like I said all that I saw was arms for a 3-4 inch drop.

Manes truck parts has them for about $250/pr
Also put a post on the parts board. You should get several offers. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/forumdisplay.php?f=8 Last edited by turner72; 08-06-2010 at 12:34 PM. |

yah I just checked there site again and can only find the drop trailing arms. Other wise I would be more willing to look into them. I checked the for sale area and didn't see any I will keep an eye on it for sure though.

Re: new truck, new member a few questions.
Youre welcome. Unfortunatley I bought them from Manes and then found out some had a set less than 30 miles away for $75.
Here is the link for the thread I started when I was looking. There was someone in Mesa, AZ with a pair for $110 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=411671 |

the ones you bought from manes were they pretty straight or did they look like you would have to replace them again in a few years? I just don't want to buy something just to have to change it out again later ya know?

Re: new truck, new member a few questions.
The ones I bought were in nice shape. The only pair they had were sandblasted and powdercoated. There was a small dent I was able to straighten out easily. You may want to get new bushings when you order.

Re: new truck, new member a few questions.
Ok I will do that thanks again for the link this truck is supposed to be my DD but at the time I couldnt find any arms for less then 700 for both. so it was a big kick in the pants trying to choke down that price for the moment.

Re: new truck, new member a few questions.
Also, when looking for trailing arms....you need to find 3/4 trailing arms. They have reinforcement plates where the axle mounts.

Re: new truck, new member a few questions.
ok I will. now if Im not planning on using this truck for towing or anything like that will 1/2 ton arms work just fine? Or do I absolutely have to use the 3/4 arms?

Re: new truck, new member a few questions.
I just replaced my 1/2 ton because one was really bent and tweaked. I put up a wanted ad on CL for a 3/4 set and got a nice set of 3/4 ton trailing arms for $40 within a few days. I stripped them down and peeled back the plates to get the rust that was under there out (wasn't too much), welded the plates up along with up and down the center of each one (top and bottom), painted them and put them in. They were out of a long box 3/4 ton and worked perfect in my swb 1/2 ton. They are way more stout and solid...I noticed it right away. Alot more work than ordering a new set (which I almost did from CPP), but I probably have $50-$60 into them is all which was well worth it.

Re: new truck, new member a few questions.
Early Classic Enterprises has reinforcement kits for 1/2 ton trailing arms. Just need a welder.

Re: new truck, new member a few questions.
I just picked up a set for $40 from a salvage yard just have to instal them now. I am so glad I dont have to shell out to much more money for them. the best thing is they are off a 1/2 ton but they are 3/4 ton part. they already have the reinforcement plates on them. also got some split seats out of a late or early 2000 model suburban thatll look real nice in the truck. thanks for every ones help. now just need to get everything installed and done up.
