help with bag and bodydrop on my 68
so i have a 68 gmc ive been collecting parts for awhile now,
its basically just a 250/3spd truck but gonna go pick up a 292/4spd in a month to put it in, now i wanna keep my drum brakes as i just redid everything, ill go to disc when i build a new frame over winter for hydraulics now from reading i cant use drop spindles on a drum brake setup, so cupping the lca's lay frame with a 3-4inch z? then im gonna door it or cut it down to where both front rear bumper sit flat on the ground, with a re7 will i be able to untuck a 22? any help would be great, right now im just tearing the truck apart and probably pull the box tomorrow maybe start mocking up the bags sunday |

click the link in my signature (project fnlow69) mines doored on a full frame.
Sounds like your doing a lot to the truck to just redo it when you build a full frame. Or maybe i read it wrong?

Re: help with bag and bodydrop on my 68
i like drum brakes, setup properly they work amazing this was just gonna be a beater to daily while i did all the body work and paint my 99 diesel before winter but my 72 gmc got written off from hail so time to build this one,
but yeah im gonna bag it for this summer with factory trailing arms and just z it im gonna use the re'7 up front since i have some spare bags from jobs people never paid for and i got a couple old yorks from my caprice and my 81 mazda i bagged , then ill use my 72 gmc frame and do a porterbuilt frame and build a nice 4 link with a hydraulic kit since my 72's body is completly trashed so theres a spare frame and i miss the ride of hydraulics yeah i got access to a full frame table and done custom tubular race car chassis work and specialize in tig welding so if i cant do a z and i mess it up ill burn the truck to the ground, yea right now its to get it out quick and cheaply just so i can have it bagged with spare parts i might just do a 1inch body drop to lay rocker then door it with the new frame since id love to shorten the 72 frame and build a short box in the end Last edited by kaotics; 08-07-2010 at 02:46 AM. |

ya you can lower the body mounts on the cab an inch and lay rockers. The bed you'll have to do something else.

Re: help with bag and bodydrop on my 68
well bed im just gonna z the rear for now so ill have to raise the bed anyways or just build a tubular frame for the bed and put a alum tonneau cover on,
for the one inch body drop ill take a few pics, right now im in the process of moving so fighting with a messy garage, right now im just pulling the trans apart so i can figure out what clutch i need for the 250 |
