I will be pulling one shortly. What is the reason for saving the float?

Re: Gas gauge finally works!

my old unit was a rusted away to just a tube, no float, float arm or sock.

Re: Gas gauge finally works!

I replaced the wire on mine because the original was damaged and frayed. I thought the gas gauge would work after that but no luck. Looks like I'll have to replace the sending unit also.

Congrats on youyr accomplishment! I recently got mine to work and just about did backflips. I hate electrical work, especially on these because they're relatively crude compared to stuff they make these days.
