OMG. Just when I thought I was done grinding, cutting, drilling out rivets I'm not. I bagged it, notched it and set the burb down.... Only prob was it was not low enough.... I call Nate order up some more stuff. So now I'm prepping the burb for round two. Spent a few hours working on rivets...... I hate these things!!! Lol. Got 7 more to go and I'm done, I can't wait. Now clean, sand, paint and wait for UPS to get here! Pics in a couple of days guys.

Grind heads down then drill out.

I've found I can cut the heads off with my sawzall faster then my grinder takes one down...then beat the crossmember (or other part thats connected), or the frame with my BFH...usually the rivets pull out enough to let go. Then after I get it off the part... the rivets will usually pop out with a BFH and a punch.

Thats my method except I use a cutting wheel on the grinder. Did about a dozen today preparing for my wishbone. BFH and BF prybar to "assist" once the heads are gone.

My back hurts though!

I had to remove a ton of these on my truck as well. I put a cutting wheel on my grinder and notched x's on the heads and then cut them off with an air chisel. It wasnt to bad.

my truck has a leaf spring frame...and I'm putting in a coil spring setup...so everything from the center crossmember back is different.

What's making it difficult is that I am doing this with yhe truck on the frame. It's a suburban so no pulling the bed off.

Oh man i here you, i just got done this weekend gutting my 63' frame of all 3 cross members and plates. I cut rivets for 2 days with the cab on. I put a 1/8" thick cutting wheel on my grinder and would cut the heads off on both sides then punch the rest out with my air hammer, except for the trailing arm cross member i just cut of the inside rivet heads and hammered the crap out of them to push them out the top. It was loud and im sure my neighbors hate me now

Now i'm mocking up my PB trailing arm kit.

This is what I did when I bagged my truck. I tried several ways, and this worked best for me. Having an air hammer really sped things up. The ones on the center crossmember under my cab were the worst, took about 2 to 3 hours to get all of them out, and was loud as hell. It was about 10 at night when I started on those, so I know my neighbors hated me. Thank god I had a shop to work in instead of out in the open, of I know I would have had a visitor telling me to quit for the night. Good luck getting yours out.

That's how I did all of mine (probably 7 or 8 different trucks).

BTW - when I ordered my '87, I knew I was going to be lowering it. As I was following it down the assembly line I asked if I could use 3/8 bolts instead of rivets for all the spring hangers (that's the "in plant" repair procedure).

They said no.

Would've saved a ton of work.
