Re: 5 grand tach

The V-6 and V-8 Gas engine tach's were 5,000 rpm electirc units. I believe the diesel tach was cable run.

Re: 5 grand tach

That raises a second question... how about using a distributor from an older Corvette to provide cable drive to the tach?

Re: 5 grand tach

The diesel tachs are cable drive and only go to 4,000 rpms.
Stocker, no idea if that would work or not????

Why? Maybe someone has a cable drive tach, and they want to use it in their truck. Using a Corvette dizzy may be a way to make it work. Might need to have a cable (or an adapter) made, though, if the tach end doesn't match the connector on the tach.... or if the Corvette cable is too short.

Re: 5 grand tach

wouldn't it be a whole lot less expensive & easier to just swap over to the electric truck tach?

Re: 5 grand tach

I'm sure it would be. Since the question was raised about installing a cable drive tach, I suggested a possible way to make it work. Just sayin'... if someone has a cable drive tach that they love the looks of and really, really want to put in their truck, there may be a way.......

Re: 5 grand tach

OK, sorry. I was confused. But, I bet a corvette dist. or cable tach would fetch good $$$ from the 'vette crowd.
