body lift kit

I am thinking of lifting the body of my V2500 about 4" when I install the doner 86 silverado cab and box. What are the issues with this and what kits are reccomended? Note: I have a lift bed kit (tilt) and lifting the cab will help adapting the new box with the kit. When the kit on the current box was installed and they cut all the box support to get it low enough which was not a good idea.

Re: body lift kit

They do not make a 4" body lift. It's unsafe. The most you will be able to get is a 3" body lift. With a body lift over 3", it can actually make the mounts weak and if you get into an accident, (worse case scenario) the body will sheer off the frame.

Re: body lift kit

They make bigger then 3 inch for certain vehicles but in most states anything over 3 inches plus the factory bushings is illegal, here in wv you can have your factory busings and a 3 inch block but that's it nothing bigger. I never thought they made bigger then a 3 inch body lift but I was proved wrong summit has them for certain vehicles, but for chevy's from 73-98 I think 3 inch is it.

Thing I hate is they don't have bumper raising bracket for 73-87's and they look terrible with the bumper down low and big gap IMO.

Re: body lift kit

Any kit is going to be about the same. It is as easy as unbolting your body mounts and jacking the cab up and inserting the blocks. The kits come with longer bolts. Sometimes you have to do some trimming on like say your lower fan shroud but all the instructions will come with your kit. I have used body lifts a couple of times and I really dont reccomend them unless you just need a inch or so to clear tires.
