Looking for Blazer door info

I am aware of some of the differences between doors from a Blazer vs. a PU but not sure about the area where the window section meets the main door. As you can see in the first picture from my ’72 PU a nice clean gap where the two pieces intersect but in the next two pictures from my Blazer both doors have what appear to be a weld bead? Factory? Or is this someone’s fix? The Blazer doors do not have the ’72 anti-rattle screw like the PU either even though it is a ‘72. Was the weld possibly a GM temporary anti-rattle fix? How about a picture or two of your “I am 100% positively sure this is what it’s supposed to look like and it’s never been screwed with” Blazer doors? Bouncy?

Re: Looking for Blazer door info

Have the outer doors been reskined with After Market (AM) panels? The AM panels don't match very well in those areas. Some one could have welded the gaps ??

Those welds do not look factory. Also, you should know that ALL blazer doors had the screw, not just 72. It is true that only 72 pickups had the screw, but all Blazers 69 - 72 had the screw.

Re: Looking for Blazer door info

I believe that the weld is factory (actually it should be a brazing). Can you peel the paint and see if it is a copper color? Mine is 100% original '72 Jimmy and it is the same way. I believe when they cut the frame work around the window it was from a stock truck door. Then they welded it there to keep the window and wind wing from moving the pillar around, giving it a little more structure. That's why often times you'll see cracks in there from all the stress that is put on the remnant piece of frame work left behind.

Re: Looking for Blazer door info

Here's mine, see the stress crack.... I've seen a lot of Blazers with the crack here and the crack you have pictured above on the truck door. I believe they're caused by just slamming the door against the weatherstripping repeatedly.

Re: Looking for Blazer door info

The doors on my blazer were still in original paint, and are welded as well.

Re: Looking for Blazer door info

Those welds are much better than my factory welds, lol. Someone did a nice job on the welding IMO. Anti rattle screws here as well.

Re: Looking for Blazer door info

Thats really bizarre. Why don't mine have them? They have to be the original doors. Same color as the body, it was sitting for 20 years and they were as rusty as the rest of the truck.

Re: Looking for Blazer door info

Thanks for all the feed back guys…

Pretty hard to argue with an original owner but could it be GM popped em out both ways?

70k5pk Are the screws in yours doors recessed like the pick up doors or are they different in appearance?

addicted2dunes
I will buzz the paint down to see if they have been brazed. That would explain the very smooth appearance.

Re: Looking for Blazer door info

My factory door was also welded and still in original paint. It has the screw holes and some black plastic inserts for the screws.

Re: Looking for Blazer door info

I'll take some pics of mine and post them too. They look just like my 71's doors, no screws or anything. I did reskin them and the lines around the wing don't line up so well, but I think I can trim them down some to get them to fit better. Pics to follow.
