well i guess i'll let my idea go, since it'll be five yers before i fiish the truck that i was plannin on doing it on anyway. this is for a stepside, so idoesnt apply to ou, unless you reverse the letters.

take a new goodmark stepside plain tailgate

get a metal shop to copy "chevrolet" and design a font that is the same

get "LIKE A ROCK" put on the tailgate, in raised "chevrolet" font.

same amount of letters, most people wouldnt notice. i thought of that when i was 15 and foind a place to do it, they buil custmn aluminum parts for racecars, and bedcovers and stuff. anybody think this would be cool??

Frenched the tailgate????

Looks like efabman is frenching the tailgate. Well, I know it isn't really frenched, but the metal work is intrigueing, for sure. What have you done with that piece of iron? I have an inquiring mind.

What I've thought of doing with my tailgate and tail lights is to french the taillights, put a flip kit on the handle and finish the tail gate to look basically stock by using the same piece of lower trim, in place of the upper (3-piece) trim. With no exterior handle AND the upper/lower tailgate trim in-place, you'd see that something was different, but it wouldn't just jump right out at you. You could use an embossed tailgate, or use a plain one. One other thing: the composite beds on the '01's and up, have raised letters on them. If there was a way to graft that effect onto the steel, it would be different.

efabman, you do good work.

An idea I had was to put "Tonka" on the tailgate. (using the correct lettering that Tonka uses) This would be cool looking on a 4X4, especially a yellow one.

I "toyed" (pun intended) with the idea of putting this on my 2X4 stepside but decided against it.

Maybe someone else here might want to use it...

Hey Robin
The one thing you do NOT want to put on it is weight. I had an after market gate and when I sat an empty Big Block on it it bent. Hope you got a good one. Just wanted to share my experiance with the AFTER MARKET stuff. Paint Looks Fantastic, Good luck
