Complete Tach Dash Rebuild

If you have been on the parts boards lately, you will notice that I have been buying tach dashes lately as well as a speed warning dash. I am wanting to go through and restore them all now, and am wondering if anyone is interested in seeing this step by step with pics and work progress?? I am having fun, and will be learning as I go, but enjoy challenges. I am also quite certain that some of you members will have ideas and tips and together we could have a really good and complete step by step tutorial sort of thing for all to refer to. I already have lots of pics and info on the complete teardown id interested??

For sure, I have 3 to do myself and have been thinking of the same thing. I will wait till the weather turns here, and do these as a winter project. Thanks in advance if you go through the time and trouble to do a write-up, I will not be the only one who will utilize it i'm sure..

I am up for the project and I know there is also already some good info posted on the subject, but I would like to take it step by step and try to show everything plain and simple so we can all benefit and no one should be afraid to do their own after seeing how it is done.

I would also like to see or possibly do the same for steering columns.

I would be interested in seeing it. The painting and new decal process in particular. I have one that I want to do but am afraid to tear it apart and paint it.

Obviously the tearing apart is the easy part. With that said, I have taken two apart today (with the help of my 6 yr old son, who could do the next one on his own I believe) and almost all of my worries, questions, and concerns are all better now. After looking and studying how it all goes, it looks quite simple. Time consuming to do an accurate restoration, but nothing that we all can do.

Definitely post your (re)build!! These dashes are not too difficult to go through on a basic clean up, but a picture tour of the how to's would be a great resource for current/future builders--think of all the good stuff you have searched for and found answers to along the way.

I have started a rebuild of a tach dash and followed the paint codes and cleanup steps listed in Doug's thread and so far so good.

Rebuilding one mechanically is the easy part. I am curious to see how you get an aftermarket woodgrain applique to adhere properly and not turn into a shrinky dink.

Repair/Rebuilds of this nature are one of the reasons this board is so valuable. I'm a "do-it-yourself" type, but it's always beneficial to see how someone else dealt with a project. It's a good way to get ideas and to potentially see how someone else managed something you may have had difficulties with. If you put it up for everyone, thanks for taking the extra time to document the process.

Definitely interested, I have a woodgrain that needs some plastic simulated chrome work done and some sad looking needles that need attention.
