It was a "Work In Progress", but I sure hope he doesn't get into a Fender Bender with the Baby in the Front Seat!

Re: Saw this on the road the other day......

that's a GREAT sight! its nice to see a dad being a dad! i would not hesitate to put either of my little ones (4 and 2 years old) in my truck when its "street legal" actually the 67 goes to my son and the IROC is going to my girl. i too live in the NOR*CAL its a little slower up here compared to down south.

I put my 2 year old in my blazer all the time. I either get a thumbs up or a dirty look it's usually a pretty big hit at the local cruise night.

Re: Saw this on the road the other day......

Not sure what you were implying here.

The "baby in the front seat" being dangerous refers to cars with airbags and the damage a deploying airbag can have to a rear (or front) facing child seat. Hence the keyed airbag switches in newer single cab pickups.

The kid is properly buckled in a child seat riding with Dad feeling the wind in his/her hair in a classic truck. Nothing wrong with that. I think the world would be a better place if more Dads were taking their kids out for a ride in classic iron.

I HEAR that!
My Wife and I drove down to the Palm Springs area.
Had to go down Hwy. 5 and that was OK until we got to the 210/55.
People are fricken CRAZY DRIVERS down there!
As fpr the Car Seat, I wasn't trying to "imply" anything. Maybe it was the thought of no roof on it that got my attention, and you're correct theres nothing wrong with that.
My Kid is grown up and outta the House.
Raised him right and he's a "Gear Head" too.
Now it's DAD'S turn to have some fun!

Just read the safety instructions for the car seats, some specifically say NO LAP BELTS for installation. Other than that you should be fine.

Re: Saw this on the road the other day......

Unfortunately my wife has given me strict instructions NOT to put my sons car seat in my 67. She doesnt like that I "cut it in tow and then put it back together" lol. At first her excuse was because it didnt have the D rings like newer cars to buckle in the carseat instead of using the lapbelt. Once I started tryingto figure out how to put some in, she told me the real reason. Oh well, when hes older I guess.... although that doesnt mean he hasnt taken a ride or two around the neighborhood in it, and he climbs in the driver seat every chance he gets to pretend he driving "Daddy's cool truck". Its never too young to start them out to be a hotrodder.

Re: Saw this on the road the other day......

I won't hesitate to haul kids (when i have some....some day) in my 72 burb. safer in my opinion than in a car. They would be riding in the second row and I'd use car seats that are designed for lap belts.

Re: Saw this on the road the other day......

That was the main reason I put in a newer seat and shoulder belt, my nephew(he's 2) love riding in the truck, so I wanted it to be safe as possible for him.

I put the grandkids in the front and the back. It has to be safer now than when I was growing up and we rode in the back of the pickup bed. The son in law had the granddaughter in the Suburban.

My boy thinks he's King Shat in the Blazer.

The seat is tethered to one of the rear bench bolt down locations. Totally leagal in Ontario.
As long as there is no airbag and you have the child seat tethered, your good to go...at least here in Ontario you are.

Me and my brothers (three of them) fought over who got to ride on the fold-down armrest in the front seat.

Its only with airbags that you have to keep kids out of the front seat. My 8-year-old thinks its cool when she gets to ride up front in one of the Chevelles.

How irresponsible!! I don't get why everyone gets all bent out of shape, you could smoke on the city bus when I was a kid, there was a booster seat till you were 5, then you got to sit in the seat like everyone else. I will be having my first in Dec and although he will be banned at first, 2 will be when he's coming for rides as well. The population as a whole has protected kids so much now I think it is the sole reason they are all babies and lack drive tec, I get to see the new generations every year when we have our hiring drives... fact of the mater is they are getting weaker by the year. That's my rant

I'm one bad dad....lol

The kid loves riding in the truck. Gotta admitt I do avoid cruising yeller on busy weekends untill the disc brakes and booster are installed. The wife wanted to roll fdown to huntington a couple weeks ago and I had to pass(manual clutch/brakes suck in bumper to bumper.

I grew up in the 70's early 80's.....My dad must have hated me because I spent most of my childhood riding on the metal igloo cooler that slid between the captains chairs in his 77 Dodge Van.

Once we got about 10 miles out of the city my job became official rocky moutain beverage provider......I was an expert with a bottle opener by the time I was 5 y/o
