need some help from the inline six guys

well i got my 79 home yesterday put like 30 miles on it yesterday driving it around on my short road

well its got a few minor porblems the choke dosent work and its hard starting first thing in the morning, the choke set up is an eletric choke on a rockchester verijet progressive 2bbl eny ideas how to solve that problem?

the only other problem with it is that when you accelerate sometimes it hesitates and then revs up perty high. do yall think i need to do a rebuild on my carb? or is somthin just not adjusted right?

Stumble then rev is usually a bad accelerator pump. Time for a rebuild.

As far as the choke, make sure it has power, trace the wiring circuit to be sure it is correct. Not sure about choke availability, last resort is a hand choke.

Every now and then these show up on evilflay....

I have the same carb. They are set from the factory so horibly lean the need to warm up before you can drive it in colder weather. I've checked all the emissions equipment and so on, they just run lean. I've even had the smog guy from the state say my truck is horibly lean according to the emissions readings.

Some say it's due to a cracked head between the intake and exhaust. I have not found a problem in mine like that at this point and have not seen it for myself.

My carburator was loose at the base and from the base to the bowl before the rebuild.

I have found there is a hose from the PCV valve that sets right above the exhaust manifold. Very hot area and yes it did have a hole in it.

I rebuilt the carb, set the float level to spec. When/if I pull the carb off again i'm going to open up the idle jet hole (Drill the idle adjustment jet hole).
I found in the quadra jet performance write ups the idle adjustment jets were incredibly small and causing lean conditions. The cold start conditions shhould be resolved with this mod. I did for now back out the idle screw quite a bit and it does cold start better.

Next set of spark plugs will be one range cooler and gapped smaller.
