Need help

I got a 89 Silverado CK1500 350. I want to know why it keeps stalling, it will run until the motor gets hot then just cut of and i can not start it until it cools down. I was to told by a member on the site and several other people that its a ignition coil. Could that cause it to do that? Its getting gas so its not the fuel pump. Thanks

Is your CHECK light on? If so, there are some codes stored that you can access via the ALDL connector. If you don't know how, there are posts on here that tell you. It would be better to do that, than to start throwing parts at it until you find something that fixes it. That's expensive.

Then, there's my way....fix it until it IS broke....

Sounds like heat could be causing the ignition module in the distributor to break down. Many stores like NAPA in my area will test the distributor module for free if you bring it in.

The test results from these store are not always accurate, and some times the will say the module is good when it is not, but for a free test that may find the problem it is worth a try.

Make sure when you install or reinstall the distributor module that you use heat sink compound/grease under it. The compound helps dissipate heat from the module. Without it, the module will fail.

Did you give the model, year, engine, fuel system type, and transmission information?
If it is modified from what came stock from the factory, let us know that too.

Would the Ignition Coil be the cause? I will get it out tomorrow or tonight and run it down. Thanks for you help.

That is a possibility, but it is much more common for the ignition module in the distributor to cause the symptoms you described.
