torsion bar removal
Is there a way remove the torsion bars from the lower a-arms on a 62?

Yeah I'd like to know too I imagine u could cut them out but your truck will be lying on the ground

If it is anything like all the other ones i have come across, heat a hammer and a air chizle work wonders. Never doing one on a c-10 just new cars.

The 1960 Shop Manual makes it sound pretty simple.
1. Remove the upper control arm bumper and disconnect the shock. 2. Raise vehicle and support frame so control arms are at full rebound. 3. Back off adjusting bolt, pull anchor arm off bar. 4. Pull torsion bar rearward out of front socket. In actual practice, I never did get the bars out of my control arms. After numerous attempts and soaking with penetrating oil, I pulled the entire crossmember with the bars still attached.  Just to see how stuck they were and to allow easier disposal, I propped up a heavy drift and gave them repeated full force whacks with a 10 lb sledgehammer. They never budged. And my truck had lived a sheltered life with an elderly retired owner. |
