1971 chvrolet 4x4 manual tranny
Changed out nuetral safety and backup light switch on top of tranny still no luck, any sugestions

No back lights and starts in gear is the problem

Also there is another switch that goes in the tranny that just has a one wire prong, anyone know what that is for?

have u checked fuses and that the bulbs and ground wires are good? as for starting in gear don't believe they have a safety switch, thought that was an auto only feature, i just leave mine in neutral. but maybe it was an option (that'd be the one wire?). also check at firewall and rear harness plugs mine were loose and got crud in them.

I think the single wire one is the neutral safety switch and the two wire is for reverse lights.
