March Pulley Alignment Issues

I have a BBC with the dual belt March serpentine setup. I am having trouble with the power steering pump not lineing up with the crank pulley. The alternator belt is perfect. It is a little hard to explaing but the PS pump seems crooked. Now the belt kicks as soon as I start it.

I check and the PS pump itself seems to be fine and not wore out, there is no play in the pulley itself. It jsut seems the brackets do not let it sit in line with the crank pulley. I have tried to shim it out but don't really tihnk it should be necessary since I am using everything that came in the kit

Also there seems to be very little "tightening" adjsutment?

Anyone else with these issues??

I attached an old picture of it when the truck was apart, I should have paid more attention at that point since fixing it would be 1000 times easier than now!

Thanks guys

Re: March Pulley Alignment Issues

The kit I used in my truck went in perfect with zero issues. I would suggest to call them directly.

Re: March Pulley Alignment Issues

Are you using an aftermarket balancer? That's what caused a problem with mine. I talked to March (Doug?) and they were extremely helpful and helped me figure the problem out. I ended up buying some balancer shims from Moroso that fixed the problem.

Re: March Pulley Alignment Issues

Yes, I am running a Professional Products Balancer .I thought it might be the balancer but the alternator lines up perfectly??? And it appears the ps pump pulley is sitting crooked not that itis not in or out to far?

I have contacted them with little help so far

thanks guys, maybe I will try and call them again

Re: March Pulley Alignment Issues

i have the march kit too on my 68.....had same exact problem.......took me some time but all you have to do is align it properly with the washers they give u. DONT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY THATS WHY ITS CROOKED. TRUST YOURSELF NOT THE PAPER......THEY CANT SEE YOUR TRUCK AND THEY DONT KNOW HOW YOUR INSTALLING IT....ONLY U ARE....

ON THE ARM THAT STICKS OUT FROM THE WATER PUMP YOU MUST PUT WASHERS BEHIND IT IF PULLEY STICKS OUT TO FAR SO IT CAN BRING THE PUMP IN TOWARDS THE MOTOR....IF YOUR PULLEY IS TO CLOSE AND YOU NEED TO PUSH IT OUT THEN PUT WASHERS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF BRACKET...

i know it may seem confusing....i love the march kit i have but the ps pump, pulley, and belt did take me alot of time....and I HAD TO LEAVE EVERYTHING LOOSE UNTIL IT WAS ALL INSTALLED......PUMP, BRACKET, AND PULLEY....DONT TIGHTEN LIKE THEY TELL YOU TOO....LEAVE IT LOOSE SO U HAVE WIGGLE ROOM TO WORK WITH....

JUST DID THIS 2 WEEKS AGO ON MY TRUCK.....ALTERNATOR WAS NOT TO BAD.....PS PUMP, AND PULLEY WERE HORRIBLE.....

IN THE END I LOVE IT...

Re: March Pulley Alignment Issues

I was able to get ahold of MARCH
Found the issue, the previous owner must have lost both MARCH lower brackets. My pump only had one rear lower bracket and it did not look like the ones supplied by MARCH. A friend had a factory lower bracket that I am "borrowing" , I installed it but now I have to run both the bottom factory cradle and the factroy upper bracket to make it work. The good news is the aluminum pulley does line up with the crank pulley now. I just need a few more bolts and a longer belt and she should be back on the road.

There is still a little confusion about ordering the repalcememnt brackets because the part number MARCH gave me is no longer available and the repalcement number only seems to have one bracket. Not too big of deal as I will talk to MARCH again and get it straightened out.

I do appriciate the help guys, looks like I should be able to make it to the truck show this weekend if all else go right

Re: March Pulley Alignment Issues

Thanks guys I really appriciate all the good comments. I do not think I will be making the Truck Nats., I would love to, but the wife is 35 weeks pregnant so driving roughly 4 hours away at this time is a little frowned upon by her. But I have not ruled it out totally, will have to see how these next couple weeks go!

I am really looking forward to this Saturday at Arnold Park. Make sure to stop by and chat, I should be bringing both the 71 and the Duramax if I can get the wife to drive it up.

Thanks again guys
