15 inch wheels with front disk brakes, Will it work?
I will be putting rotors and disk brake calapers from a 73 C10 on the front of my 65, will 15 inch wheels fit over the calapers?
Thanks |

Re: 15 inch wheels with front disk brakes, Will it work?
As long as the 15" wheels were designed for disc brakes, no problem. Some factory wheels that were built for drum can interfer with the caliper.

Re: 15 inch wheels with front disk brakes, Will it work?
excellent question and here's a follow-on:
Same problem I had with a 55 first series - I wanted to run stock steel wheels but all disk brake kits would result in interference. Disk kit dealers all said a spacer (I forget the size, but it was slim) would resolve the problem. Does that hold true for 60-66? In other words - for those that have run into this problem, exactly where does the interference with the caliper occur for stock steelies? (a diameter or depth/offset issue?) Thanks, jocko |

Re: 15 inch wheels with front disk brakes, Will it work?
The caliper interference occurs with the tapered backside of the pre-disc brake wheels. Almost all steel wheels prior to disc brake had a cylinder shaped front side and a conical/tapered rear shape to the rim, for ease of installing the tire. When discs came along, they simply made the back of the wheel cylinder shaped like the front, providing more clearance between the back of the wheel rim and the caliper.
Although the photo below is an early Radir mag, it uses an original pre-disc brake rim. I've marked the tapered area that normally causes the interference: |

I have 15 in Mickey Thompson aluminum wheels and they clear my manual front discs fine.
