Alright, I need some expert advice on this one. I want to pick up a pallet of sod that they're estimating weighs in around 800-1000lbs. Last year, I hauled a yard of topsoil in it and it was riding so low, I was $hitting bricks the whole way home. Here's the particulars on the truck.

1/2 ton
Lowered 4" in the rear with ECE springs and KYB shocks
BFG Radials all around

What do you think?

1 yard of topsoil will weigh around 1500 pounds. Either go get it, or make two trips !

i had the suspension bottomed out with a few model Tbodies 6flathead engines with misc other parts. drove her almost a thousand miles from the midwest to long island//and you're frettin about drivin how many miles??

Meh, I wouldn't worry about it. I've hauled that much mulch before with absolutely no troubles, and mine's a 1/2 ton, too. Heck, I don't even have discs up front, nor power brakes. You should be fine.

See, that's why I don't understand lowering a truck. You have a half ton truck and your afraid of hauling a half ton.

i can haul a ton in my truck and its stock suspension and i was fine

if your not sitting on the bump stops you won't have anything to worry about and if you are on the bump stops then you won't have to worry about bottoming out

shouldn't be that big of a deal but if your still worrying try to get a pallet when its a little dryer and just water it as soon as you can

It'll be fine, toss a spacer between the axle and the bump stop so you arent completely bottomed out and take it easy. I hauled 1ton in my 75 Chevy C10 to the scrap yard without a problem, just a lil light on the steering, lol!

While I have a 4x4, it's still a half tonner and I load all kinds of weight in it. I just dumped ~1000 pounds of scrap metal out of it, I get 1500-2000 pounds of split oak every year, and I have been known to load a dozen or more kegs of beer in it( around 2200lbs). Pump your tires up all the way, make sure the brakes are good and you will be fine. Just make sure you position the weight correctly.

i have a 68 4x4 stock everything and i just hauled 1,455lbs 750km, over two mountain passes lol. looks like you will be laying sod my friend, no getting out of it with "my truck can't handle the weight lol. good luck!

Half the weight of the topsoil and that hauled home fine so to me you're golden...

I agree to a point. If it's purely a show/pleasure vehicle than I think they're gorgeous trucks bagged. But for those that actually USE there truck, I think a drop is counter-productive. Of course I'll take a lifted truck over a slammed truck any day of the week.

With factory suspension, GVWR is 5000lbs. Empty weight approx.3500lbs. Which leads to load capacity of approx.1500lbs. Without factory suspension? Tire capacity is also a determining factor.

I'm figurin on 800lbs so it should be fine. I'll just have them put it as close to the cab as they can so it's not sitting over the rear too much.

That's why they make trailers to tow behind the truck. Actually around here I see guys with lowrider trucks hauling some pretty heavy loads all the time and not batting an eye. If the tires don't rub and you have bump stops to absorb some of the bounce it may be rough on the axle or frame though.
