Bench Seat converted into Bucket Seat

I have two bench seats, both need to be re-covered, so the thought is to cut them down to the size of a bucket seat. Has anyone attempted this? They would be installed in my 4WD project.
Suburban & Panel truck seat floor dimensions would be nice.

Re: Bench Seat converted into Bucket Seat

Now I believe the Panel truck seat had a steel panel backing and were wider than the Suburban Bucket that folded against the dash?

18 5/8" outside to outside is the measure of a panel folding seat

Re: Bench Seat converted into Bucket Seat

Well, cut down the bench by 41 3/4" to make a bucket seat about 18" wide. Need to weld it up now. One drawback, only one seat track lock will be operable as they are to close together to link them. The passenger side lock lever pulls from the bottom via a connecting wire, and the drivers side pulls from the top. I cut where the triangular plates in the front corners of the seat bottom end. That determined the dimension.

It's an illness I tell you!

18" seems kind of skinny. I had some 20" Dodge seats (late model stuff) that I test fit in my 64 & they even seemed on the brink. I guess it depends really on what might go between the seats too though....

Re: Bench Seat converted into Bucket Seat

With the upholstery on the frame it will be a bit wider than 18". The Suburban/ Panel seat is 18 5/8 " wide as padresag mentioned. I've never sat in one so I don't know if it was uncomfortable. There's also driving with a seat that's off center of the steering wheel, if I use the original mounting position.
