SPECTRA PREMIUM gas tanks

FYI: They're made in Canada.

Got mine in yesterday (Wed) a.m. I ordered it Sunday and it shipped Monday from Rock Auto. Arrived in excellent shape and looks good. It was cheaper than most of the ones I checked and shipping was about half what others quoted me. Overall very satisfied.

Good to see it was made in Canada verses some of those other countries...

Re: SPECTRA PREMIUM gas tanks

Total cost was $183.

I installed it the same day and about the only thing I noticed was some of the mounting holes were slightly off center. Not enough to preven the bolts from going in, though.

One other thing that has to be done on some of these tanks is to realign the filler neck once it's installed so it's centered on the cab hole. I've had to do it on other tanks and found the easiest way to do it is to insert a long wooden pole in the filler neck (like a shovel handle or simlar) wrapped with a shop cloth for cushioning and pry the filler in the direction you want it to go.

I'll be completing the installation today when I go fill it up and drive it around. I will be checking on the gas smell problem.

Re: SPECTRA PREMIUM gas tanks

More FYI:

Filled up the tank -5 gals from a container and 16 at the pump - and drove around town for a few miles. No gas smell and no danger of blowing up.

As I mentioned in my other post, I have been driving around with a slight gas smell for a couple of years. Part of it I know was the cap since I couldn't get one to fit tight enough on my 10-12 yr old tank. But, the smell got worse and I found a few microscopic holes in the bottom of the tank. Just big enough to allow fumes but not big enough to leave any puddles on the cab floor.

The cap does fit better on this new one. Seems to seal the filler just snug enough.

Re: SPECTRA PREMIUM gas tanks

When I check RockAuto it says they're $367. How'd you get that price? I'm looking for a new one also, and would like the Specre Premium myself. Thanks.

Re: SPECTRA PREMIUM gas tanks

Holy smackerel! Can they go up over 100% that quick? Mine was without eec and it looks like all they have is with eec.

Something is either screwed up or I got the last one before they doubled their prices. I'd give them a call.
