6 lug front disc

I want to change my 67 to disk but not sure if I wan't to change the spindles. I could put 6 lug disc but everyone says its hard to get parts if you break down and thats why they switch to 5 lug. Wouldn't the only difference between 5 lug and 6 lug disc be the number of lugs on the rotor? or am I completely out to lunch?

I have a lead on a pair of 6 lug rotors and am also wondering if the caliper set up would be the same as a 5 lug and all I need is the rotors?

I'm not aware of any 6 lug rotor that will work with your stock 67 spindles. The usual way to do a disc conversion on these trucks is to use aftermarket spindles or stock spindles from a 71-87 truck. The main difference is that the aftermarket spindles let you keep your stock balljoints and tierod ends. Both of these spindles take the stock 5 lug rotors, but there is an aftermarket 6 lug rotor that is a direct replacement for the 1-1/4" thick 5 lug. This 6 lug rotor was never used as a factory part by GM.

There is a different 6 lug rotor that was a factory part on 88-98 trucks. This one requires 88-98 spindles and will not work with the earlier spindles.

If you currently have drum brakes, you must swap spindles to install disc brakes; there's no other way to do it.

I have 6-lug disc brakes on my truck and considered changing to 5-lug but didn't want to have to change the rear. Once you have the correct spindles (either stock or drop) the only difference is the rotor; one will have a 5-lug setup and the other a 6-lug, the rest of the parts will work with either setup.

Well, actually there is a way. Several vendors sell a bracket and bearing spacer kit that allows you to install a CAR disc setup (5 on 4-3/4") on the original drum spindles. Howrever, I am not aware of anyone offering a way to install the stock TRUCK discs, either 5 or 6 lug.

That is true, and CPP offers a modified bracket, but IMO, there's not better (or safer) way.
