Master Cylinder

Want to replace the old single master cylinder on my 60 gmc now that i have a v8 automatic. Does anyone make a modern dual master cyl for 4 wheel drums that i can just bolt on without too much modification. May do disk setup later but for the time being, i just want to get the dual cyl installed.

Problem is i got the old brake/clutch type master cylinder and I don't think any of the ones discussed will bolt up, i think it's a totally different bolt pattern. So, i'll probably have to drill and fabricate to attach. I probably will go with the one from the 67 Impala though. My truck is a 1960 that had the hydraulic clutch.

I too had the original dual holes on the firewall and I bought a plate from Capt. Fab. to cover the holes and let the dual master cylinder mount up. Contact the Capt. he'll fix you up!

You will need to install a separate MC for the clutch. This is standard procedure when converting the 60-62 trucks to a split brake system. There are several very good writeups here showing different ways of doing it.

In that case - you could probably use/choose the holes that do line up and add whichever ones don't - OR - Capt Fabs adapter could be used - and you could skip mounting the slave cyl for the clutch since you don't need it anymore (or hack it off the adapter). Sorry Capt Fab - meant to say "politely slice".

I too got one from CaptainFab. Very precision piece. You'd think it was made to go on the space shuttle. He apparently takes great pains to ensure these adapters are very high quality. I picked up a 67 chevy truck master cylinder for about thirty bucks at AutoZone and I should have everything i need. Had the old dual master for brake and clutch. Threw it out with the v6 and put in a 700r4 and 350, so the master is dedicated to the brakes only now. Going with 4 wheel drums non power assist for the time being. May upgrade to power disc later. Anyway, Captain Fab is the man, I'm totally satisfied. Anything i need he sells, I'm buying from him.
