new installed Saddle Houndstooth 71-71 seat/cover

I have decided to go back to the original custom cloth interior that is not being reproduced. I stopped by SMS fabrics in Oregon, emptied my wallet, and will have a perfect match to my original saddle for 69. If you see the pictures, you will notice the difference of the 69-70 saddle versus the 71-72.

Very nice bench without any broken springs or foam work. I have driven this truck approximatley 400 miles since completion. The seat tracks shown are staying with my new seat, but it will have a nice set with this seat.

$600 obo. SOLD
Dash pad available for $50 sold

I can deliver to the Portland area.

Seat will be available in a couple weeks when my new one is done.

Re: new installed Saddle Houndstooth 71-71 seat/cover

I will do that. I am working on a few ideas to recreate a few seats (with NOS material in Hylander and others not currently reproduced) now we have a pattern for both the bench and buckets. The color on the NOS material I purchased was spot on to the Custom 69 saddle.

Labor will be about $160-$180 for top and bottom.

Here are a couple quick pics. I will get more when I get it back in.

Blazer Crazy70: I have enough of the ribbing to do another seat. If you like this and want one produced, let me know and I could help you out. I am very pleased to go through this hassle as the saddle in 69 is much different than 72.

Re: new installed Saddle Houndstooth 71-71 seat/cover

Would this work on a 68 Bench seat. I can't find any seat covers I like for my 68. Thanks. Also what would the cost be if so. Thanks again.

Re: new installed Saddle Houndstooth 71-71 seat/cover

I am not sure what you are asking for the 68. The cover I had made for my 69 in original material would cost about $600. Basically $430 for the material and $170 labor.

Re: new installed Saddle Houndstooth 71-71 seat/cover

They dash pad is original color 72 saddle which is more brown than my 69 saddle so nothing was done to the color. It is in an original repro box with original hardware from the black one I bought to replace it. I only have put around 500 miles on the truck since it was installed and I never added Armour All or any other product. I did not like my interior being two shades of saddle and I did add a tilt, so the dash should be black.

To Arizona I could do Fedex ground for $55 to your door. Would be better for me if you have a business address, but not a problem.

Re: new installed Saddle Houndstooth 71-71 seat/cover

Hello John, When I read ''emptyed you wallet" I knew what you went thru to get the right material. I have a 72 that has the standard seat vynal in off-white or parchment and it took 3 years and 4 orders from SMS to get all of the correct pieces. Can you help with getting it all sewn together ? Thanks Randy

Yes,

I will give you a call. If you are not in a hurry, I am going to Portland for Xmas and could have it dropped off at the Upholstery shop?

Re: new installed Saddle Houndstooth 71-71 seat/cover

Did you decide to run the cloth with the lines going side to side or is that how they came? I thought they went from top to bottom like this seat. This seat has had 69-70 GM inserts placed on a original vinyl 72 seat, but the material is turned the oppisite way from yours. I don't know which way is correct, so I was checking.

Re: new installed Saddle Houndstooth 71-71 seat/cover

We laid my original seat out and copied it as close as possible so I am pretty sure it is correct as original. The material was spot on as I took my original seat into SMS. I can stop bu later this month to verify. If it is wrong.....I will probably change it!

Re: new installed Saddle Houndstooth 71-71 seat/cover

john,
i see what you mean (in pic #3) i see the color difference. my leather seat appears to be around the same color as your new seat, so i am a little concered about the matching too. my current pad is not in bad shape, i just am thinking that yours would be easier than getting mine recovered in the same leather as the seat- not to mention cheaper, but like you i want to make sure it matches descent as well & looks good to boot!!

thanks!!

i will ponder some more, don't hold for me. if still available when i decide i'll check back in...

I would have to say the cloth is going in the wrong direction....should be up and down, not side to side. The original picture post has the cloth going in the correct direction.

I don't really know either. I just wanted to make sure that the guy who re-inserted the blue seat for me did it the correct way. I know in 71-72 they had 2 different cloth seats. The Cheyenne super got the hound tooth like on your first seat, and the custome deluxe got another cloth very similar to the your second seat and my redone blue seat. Except the line are a little thicker on the 71-72 pattern. In both of those cloths the line go from top to bottom.

Here are some original 72 seats.

Re: new installed Saddle Houndstooth 71-71 seat/cover

Old thread but came across this picture of a 69 cst with the same interior as one mine. Before I found this, I thought Gmc might be different, but here is a cst with a saddle interior

I think the 71-72 lines are vertical versus the 69-70 horizontal.
