Question Advertizement for this board/more members needed.

Ok I'm assuming this is the biggest and best board for 67-72s right? How can we get more members, and get more action here on the board? Has this board ever put adds in Classic Trucks? Custom Classic trucks? I know theres thousands of 67-72 members with nice trucks that aren't on this board. What can we do to get them here?

Business Cards

Maybe business cards could be printed up and sell them to us so we can hand out or put on trucks as we have opportunies?
Also adds in various magazines is a possiblity. How about advertising at various truck shows such as Pigeon Forge, Columbus ,Oh, or Carlise, Pa.
Just food for thought.... etc

I ususally give word of the board to people I talk to around the city. It's usually the older guys that stop me at the gas pump or car wash that are restoring their truck or wanting to talk about the truck they used to have.

How many more members are needed? This board is fairly well known on the net. I can't keep up with all the topics as it is.

I think the the count was around 4,500 when I joined last Feb. N ow its over 7,200 thats a good increase. But notice some join and never post or a very few times. So that proves numbers don't mean alot.

I spent a year reading this board as a guest before I formally registered. I have had a simple web site since 1994 (old Mosaic UI browser and gopher from UM) and find this a really informative board. Advertising in Classic Trucks would be a good idea. If not already done, it would also be a good idea to get regularly listed on Google.

Advertising cost money & normally used to increase revenue ... there is NO revenue to be made here ... its a FREE site funded by Josh's personal money and donations from board members... so why spent the $$$ on advertising when Josh/"The Board" can't recoup the costs ... and better yet, who is gonna pay for this advertising ... the magazines don't give that space away for FREE.

I think Josh has done a great job funding this project out of his pocket and the donations... why ask him to spent more money with no way to get it back?

Don't get me wrong ... i think "the more the merrier" too ... I love to see new members and the knowledge & information that they bring to "The Board."

Shane,
I am fairly new to this board and did not mean to upset any members. But Google equals exposure and traffic. If you want to go fast you need horsepower.

There's got to be away to raise money. From Parts distributors advertizing on the site or something. Raffles? Say 5.00 a ticket for a chance to win a part donated by.......

Yahoo you type in "67-72 Chevy Trucks" this site isn't on the first page. Key words? Etc....

I am not sure. But if you hit "board" right after "new" you are directed here. The webmaster is named "Jeff" and there are a lot of banners.

Can this board be overloaded?

Not being well versed in web sights...Is it possible to overload this sight? What is the purpose of this sight? What is the goal/vision for Josh...Since this is his child and I agree he has done an excellent job and has invested his time and money that his input should be voiced. Is it possible to get to much traffic and end up with a trafic jam? I enjoy all the good info and humor this board offers. It's good to see other suppliers get on this board to give help and advice. I think it's super of those suppliers to do so. Friendly competition is good for the sellers and buyers.
This board is like a Chevy...It ROCKS! (OK...GMC Also)

Dreaminator - My post wasn't directed at you specifically ... sorry if you took it that way. I just wanted to make the point to everyone that "You can't get something for nothing." No one is upset ... its all good.

Just sounded to me like folks are asking Josh to advertise more ... but no one is willing to "foot the bill." Josh doesn't charge anyone to use this board ... it's Free, so my question was how is Josh gonna recoup his costs for advertising.

Reumster - You have a great idea there ... and since you sell your LED kits on here, then that makes you a vendor. Why don't you do the first raffle, for a set of your LED's ... and then maybe some of the other vendors will follow suit. I know I would rather see a raffle as opposed to Ads, that way the cash goes back to the board. But if Josh is willing to have ads, then Reumster you could be the first here as well with an ad for your LED kits ... maybe that is something you should ask about.

Everyone should also note that this site has no Ads or Pop-Ups. I'm sure all os us can appreciate that fact ... especially after visiting some of the other message boards out there. What alot of folks don't realize on the other boards is the ad's help pay for the server time used on the host computer ... something that is not done here. It is paid from donations and out of Josh's pocket.

Just me thoughts on the subject ....

I was thinking that myself Shane. I'm going to talk it over with Joel. I'll see what I can do.

Don't get me wrong I love this board. I've been a member for a long time. No pop-ups is a very good thing. But with more traffic, and more members it does many things, it will encourage Vendors to pay money to be feature here, and encourage them to spend money in advertizement here.

advertizing?

No Ads or Pop-Ups I like that. Adds would be ok if kepted small and/or on a seperate page. and now my thinking on this
  • Is Josh ok with this?
  • Will the site handle say twice the amount of traffic?
  • All vendors using this site could show the 67-72chevytrucks.com address in their advertizements.
  • Both vendors and personal web pages could have a link to this site.
  • Josh could make up lic. plates with logo on them to sell ( if you do this Josh I'll take the first two) Then not only could you have one on your other rides but the ones at the shows could mount on their trucks or at less hang over their state lic.plate so everyone who looked at their truck would see the logo also.
OK I'll shut-up now. Josh great site Job well done keep it up.
