Question underhood lighting?

Howdy folks.

Were there any options for under hood lighting for our trucks?

Factory accessory options or what not?

I read that there is an option for the Chevy cars of the same time frame, but it was not standard.

What have any of you come across?

Re: underhood lighting?

I don't remember exactly which 60's year this brochure covered, but GM did offer accessory underhood lighting for every GM car and truck

Re: underhood lighting?

I'm thinking 62 or 63 from the car models listed.

Re: underhood lighting?

Those are from the 63 Custom Feature Accessories Book. This term " All Chevrolet " leads to the question of whether that included the truck models.
Guide Matic Headlamp Control, Courtesy Lamps, Vanity Visor Mirror and Comb, Speed and Cruise Control, all listed as ALL CHEVROLET, while other accessories specify truck.
The 63 Underhood Lamp has the single mounting screw as the 64 up has 2 mounting screws. There was an NOS 1963 Underhood lamp sold on Ebay starting price $350.00. I`ve found these in reproduction somewhere.

Re: underhood lighting?

I believe (does not mean I'm not wrong) that the term "Chevrolet" back in the day referred to the "full size cars" like imp/bel air/biscayne (granted they were all chevrolets...) Have had several 65 full size chevs and that is how their shop manuals were labeled and their parts are generally referred to in some catalogs. I wouldn't bet my dog on it, but if I were to read a 63 brochure for Chevrolet accessories, and they referred to "chevrolets" - that's what I think of for some reason - and as noted, other models are listed separately (like corvair, etc).
my 2 cents. And that won't buy you nothin - but I think that is what is meant when they say "all chevrolets" - so it would not include trucks (but I'm not saying they didn't have engine bay lights either - but I think the brochure is referring to cars.
who knows!

Re: underhood lighting?

My thinking as well, all Chevrolet meant full size/line cars. though nothing would stop a dealer from installing a accessory from a car onto a truck.

Re: underhood lighting?

Payaso from the HAMB:

LMC has a hood light that wires in to 12v...and has an internal switch that is "gravity" activated. When you open the hood, it automatically switches on, when you close the hood...it turns off. Pretty cheap too? $25.00 bucks.

Got a catty right here...part number 36-4502
