best soft top/roll cages

Two part question.

Who makes a good soft top for year round use, my hard top is pretty ratty and I'm thinking a soft top may be the answer.

Second part.
Does anybody have kits for roll cages or is it all diy. I don't have a tube bender or a decent offroad shop in my area.

Re: best soft top/roll cages

There is only one source for new soft tops, http://www.softopper.com/. You can still find used tops occasionally. Kayline, Specialty Top Co (STC) and Bestop all used to make tops, but have either gone out of business or stopped manufacturing them. When used ones come up for sale, they tend to go quickly so you've got to be ready to jump.

For the roll bars, there were several aftermarket "roll bar" kits in the past and used ones come up for sale fairly often. For full cages, you'll probably have to build your own.

If you become a subscribing member, you can post a "wanted to buy" thread for either or both items.

S&W uses the same cage for both trucks and blazers. The part number is 11-1590.

Re: best soft top/roll cages

Be careful with the sw cages, My buddy bought the kit for his blazer and says it was basically a really expensive way to buy tube.

He hade to pay a local shop to pretty much build him a cage from scratch, using only a few pieces from his original kit.

On a side note, does anyone know if a soft top will fit over a full cage if the cage fits under a hardtop?

Don't know of any soft tops that will fit over a full (family) cage.

Re: best soft top/roll cages

If you want a top that fits from the git-go, wears well and lasts, the Softtopper is the answer. It's basically a modified copy of a top originally designed by BestTop.

I paid an upholstery/hot rod shop to put mine on, but you can DIY if you have the time and inclination. I've had mine on since May and it's been doing great through one of the hottest summers in Georgia history.

If it's anything like the Besttop I had on my first Blazer, if you take care of it, it will last for years through every type of weather imaginable.

If a rollbar/cage is in your future, as some folks in this thread have suggested, you are probably better off getting a local shop to build one to your specs.

Have fun and good luck!
