1986 GMC Wrangler "Stampede Edition"

Hey Guys! Thought I would try and share some pics of my newest ride. It is a 1986 GMC Wrangler 1/2 ton. This one is unique in that it is also a Calgary Stampede Edition. I have not seen any more of these, and do not really know the history on it. Basically, it adds some changes to the trim. Instead of the stylized wrangler "W" at the rear of the truck, it now shows a bronc rider. It also included a Calgary Stampede logo in bronze under the Wrangler call outs on the side. Other than that it is a run of the mill '86 GM pickup. It has the 305 and the 700r4. As for options, it has mainly everything but power windows and locks. So I hope these pics work out, and enjoy!

Re: 1986 GMC Wrangler "Stampede Edition"

I have an 87 GMC Wrangler, 305TBI/ TH400. Not a stampede, as mine was made for ontario and we have no stampedes. Mine got the two tone though. Its tough to find these wrangler in my parts. Seen maybe 3 since i have owned it. All of them rotten. But here is mine. Hope you like.

That trucks is amazing considering most Canadian trucks look like a piece of moldy Swiss cheese. The Wrangler edition is cool. I wonder if the Calgary upgrade was a delaer install.

Re: 1986 GMC Wrangler "Stampede Edition"

87GMCChris, very nice! I like your rear bumper! I'm not a fan of the step bumper on the 2wd half tons.

I have seen some two tones around, and a few around with the one colour and 5 stripe like mine. But as N2TRUX has observed, the Canadian winters have taken their toll on the bodies and the're are a lot of 'em left looking like they were rode hard and put away wet!

It must be a Calgary and area dealer install, but I can't find any reference or any other one in existance, so I havn't a clue.

I used to have the step bumper, but i wanted somthing a little cleaner. Its an NOS i got from cpa. I like it much more. Before and after, lol i almost got it praked in the same spot. Sorry for the cell phone pics.
Although mine is a very clean truck it did not always look like it does now. Took alot of elbow grease and cleaning. No body work... just a little dimond in the ruff.
All i ever did was bumper, mirrors, taillights, grill. And clean and wax like hell. Oil gaurd everywhere. Although thats what saved it, and the fact that it sat in storage for 8-10 years of its life between owners(Myself only being the third). Now it never sees the snow.

Through searching/GM/Vintage vehical Services(http://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/options.html) etc. I found out this.

My truck is an 1987 GMC Wrangler. In the list of RPO's there is two that stick out. W78 and w80, One of those is "Wrangler package A" and the other is "Package C" Which is a heavy duty package, including things like 235/75R15s, heavy duty shocks, "extra capacity springs, and batt". Along with your choice is upgraded tranny, Granny 4, 700R4 Or..... in my case TH400.
If i could ever figure it out i will post all that info on my build thread. I also got ahold of a brochure from 87 on gmc pickups, which states the same. Hope this clears up the mistery of my th400.
