dammm knocking noise

see if anybody can help out there....
I have 82 crewcab k30 with a 454. About to weeks ago a nocking
noise started when the engine is in idle at 800rpm, but when give gas or drive it the noise is gone. can't really hear were the noise is coming from,
I think the valves need to be adjusted. Need some help

Valves tap, rod bearings and other things knock.
First thing, check your flexplate. If it's worked its way loose or is cracked, it'll knock like that.
Second, pull your oil filter and cut it open. Excess metal flakes in there, particularly big ones, indicate a bearing going south.

You are not alone! Last week, I started up my truck for a drive. Once the engine got to temp, I noticed a knocking at idle.

At first, I thought it was due to oil breakdown since I did go over the 3,000 mark.... I extended the conventional oil to 5,000 miles..... yes, not good.

Changed the oil, noise still remains. The noise is actually coming right from the converter/flexplate area. I borrowed a friend's automotive listening device to pinpoint where it is coming from. Checking that soon. I HOPE it's a cracked flexplate and not the bottom end of my engine.
