Need help 2 questions

First question:
I have a 77 c10, when in first and second gear there is a loud "spinning" sound, thats the best way to describe it, comming from the transmission. It sounds almost like loose bearings or something. In third it is silent, just sounds normal. Anyone know what the issue could be?

Second question:
If I remove the stock air cleaner and install an Edelbrock pro-flow what do I do with the tubes that are hooked up to the neck of the factory air cleaner intake. Can I just get rid of them or is there something else I need to do.

Thanks in advance guys I am new to the whole truck game and you are really the only ones i have to answer my questions.

Re: Need help 2 questions

dose it grind in gear? what trannie do you have?

well you can remove the factory hot air pipe (thats what i call it) it just brings hot air from the manifolds to you air cleaner so it dont stumble when its cold. how cold dose it get in your neck of the woods? here in nc when it gets cold my choke will hardly cut off on my 77 without it. i had an edelbrock pro-flow on my 77 but i ditched that for my stock air cleaner with the lid turned upside down with a correct size K&N air filter and this a good workin set up couse on the cold mornings i can put that pipe back and turn the lid over and it dosent stumble as bad which makes me look better when i dont choke it off first thing pulling over the speed bump at skool. lol

masterlock is there eny chance we can here more about the truck?

Re: Need help 2 questions

It doesnt get cold here, 70-80 every day, kinda sucks honestly, I like weather. Anyway, It has a 350 and matching tranny im pretty sure it is all original. The sound isnt grinding it sounds like something is spinning like I said like spinning bearings. It does not happen in third, its a three speed manual. The guy that had it before me converted it to a floor shifter. Not sure what else to mention, again Im new at this so the more specific questions the beter I can answer.

But back to the vacuum hose issue, I can just remove that hose and not worry about anything?

Re: Need help 2 questions

Now that you mention that its a manual, my truck does the same thing in 1st and 2nd gear, and when the truck is idling in nuetral you can really hear it. My dad said it was from the bearings being worn out/damaged from not being properly maintained. I dont plan on doing anything about it since i plan on swapping it out for an NV4500 soon.

yeah thats what it sounds like, Anyone know what the price to replace the bearings would be? I figure I should fix it now before it gets worse.

Re: Need help 2 questions

No smog test in Cali? In AZ, they check all of the connections to the carb and air cleaner, even if not directly smog related. During my last trip throught emissions, the boss came out of the office and checked over my engine for 20 minutes before they let me through - and I had everything stock set up. That is why I don't like aftermarket carbs - you end up with a cobbled up mess trying to hook everything back up - unless you just plain eliminate what doesn't hook up. I say stick with the stock set up - but each to his or her own.

you would have to get some price quotes for a transmission rebuild from your local shops
