what's it take to convert to front disc?

looking to change my 70 blazer from front drum to disc. Is there a complete kit to do it out there? if not what's it take and a donor would be tough to find.

Thanks,
David

You should be able to find a disc brake dana 44 axle from a 72-79ish truck, blazer or burb. Im not sure when they went to 10 bolt corp. front axles. Just make sure your gear ratio matches the rear. Your brake hoses will have to be chamged I think. I just picked one up for $80 with flat top knuckles.

4x4, right? Gears on the donor axle don't matter. Everything from the spindles out is interchangeable. This includes the GM 10 bolts. Break the outers down to the knuckles and swap then to your axle.

yea 4x4, that's good, so i can just remove my drum ends and replace with disc, albeit with new rotors/pads. how tough are the calipers to rebuild? also will i see a differance in my backspacing requirements for wheels?

If you want a kit that you can get one from some websites like www.lmctruck.com I would shop around to make sure that they are the best price though.

Re: what's it take to convert to front disc?

I just pulled the Dana 44 out of my 72 Blazer. I would sell you everything from the knuckles out for $160 shipped. Which includes new lifetime warranty Warn hubs with less than a 1,000 miles of street driving on them and newer brakes. I can get photos after work if you're interested.
