5/8 bore shock, 1/2 bolt control arm

does anyone know where i can easily find a shock reducer or new inserts for my shocks, i am running the front shocks spec. for the front dropmember. the only thing is that they have a 5/8 mounting hole, my factory lowers have a 1/2 hole. not enough room in the control arm to drill them to 5/8, i have to either machine one(do not want to do this unless i have to) or insert a whole new bushing set with a 1/2 hole. any help would be great, thanks daniel.

not enough room between the shock mount and the control arm for a 5/8 bolt, washer, and nut. barely enough room for the 1/2 inch.

press it out and either look to see if you got larger ones in the backs with the bolts or just get some tubing and make some correct size ones.

Can you reverse the bolt and run it as a stud? This is the configuration I used on my 77 when I upgraded to a Ride Tech billet shock with 5/8" hardware.

I bought a 5/8"x2" bolt and a few 5/8" jamb nuts. I ran the bolt through the mounting tab toward the outside and cinched a jamb nut down. Mounted the shock and another jamb nut.

I plan to use Loc-Tite once I get to final assembly to ensure the nut stays in place.

In a city the size of Houston I would expect to find a hardware or fastener supply that carries 5/8" x 1/2" bushings. That should be your fastest and cheapest fix.

I feel your pain... ran into the same problem and gave up looking for awhile. Just haven't been able to make time to look again.

Re: 5/8 bore shock, 1/2 bolt control arm

i hope these shocks are good, had to trim them side to side to fit the mount in the a arm and install spacer. have to custom make them each time. ha ha. oh well. i live for this $#1@. here is a pic of the finished product. i relief cut the spacer to give it clearance, then i pressed it with my arbor press. then i drilled i back to 1/2 inch.
