Clearance issues 700r front crossmember

I have a 67 short fleet I have installed a GM crate engine and a 700r, My problem is the cross member that goes between the frame rails behind the engine is to close to the bottom of the transmission and torque converter. So tight in fact that I can not get the dust shield on. I can not raise the transmission up as it will hit the floor. Has anyone else had this problem or do I just modify the cross member.

No modification necessary... removal is necessary. It's only for the manual trans trucks.

Yup, it needs to be removed. I had to do it on my truck since it was originally a standard.

Re: Clearance issues 700r front crossmember

Thanks for the quick response. I would not have thought of that as this cab was a low hump so I thought it was a always was originally a automatic. I have owned the truck for about 25 years. Unless the frame was swapped on it at one time maybe. Anyways time to get my air chisel out and make some noise

yup...take it out of there....and if you don't have one, get a new crossmember to hold up the tail of the trans.

Re: Clearance issues 700r front crossmember

you might have to mod the new crossmember for the trans. on my 71 the oil pan hit it so i just cut a little out and rewelded it and as good as new
